Mind-blowing. Some nice waves were ridden in the comp on Wednesday, but nobody rides them like John. Was painful not to see him be part of it. Nice to see these though.

I was at the Pipemasters in 2003 and JJ was already a star---at 11 years old. I remember him coming ashore after surfing and a group of Japanese girls rushed him as he was coming out of the water and unstrapping his leash. I don't remember if he was just out surfing or was a wildcard in the contest.

Pipeline - I am the princess Teahupoo - I am the King no matter what :-)

You grow up surfing pipeline all your life you are going to be very well prepared to take off at chopes imo, that late drop and sliding inside rail with early grab, pipe and chopes seem very similar in that regards, you just need to make sure you stroke into it the right way.. John and Nathan clearly show their pipe knowledge here..

So good, so rad. Those boys have the steep and late takeoffs dialed.

Thank you for this Awesome vid, even if it was awhile ago! I wish I was young again when I had the strength and nerves. I could at least go out on Tahiti, on a smaller day that is.. I surfed back in the mid to late 80's with Kelly and his brother Sean and kids like Todd Holland, Trip Freeman, David Glasser, and gromets like Shea Lopez, etc, etc.. in Cocoa Beach Florida where I lived and grew up almost all my life.. I toured a lot with NSSA but was never talented enough to make it a career unfortunately, but it was the happiest part of my life. Now I'm closing in on 50, and sessions like these make me reminisce and cherish the times I had like this (Not as hairy or sketchy like Teahupoo of course..). Damn, I remember a long long time agoTeahupoo was hardly known until Surfer Magazine did an article and short vid of a few locals out.. Great session to you and your brother Nathan. Hope you can put USA back on top again!
