Staying "happy for no reason!" has got me through some awefuly hard times. A little good luck never hurts too (good people are always more lucky). Good luck to you!
As a 53 year old white guy from northern Minnesota, I grew up listening to the old AM Radio and fell in love with the Delta Blues. My whole life I have listened to this fantastic music and have been inspired to play guitar in the same fashion. One of my better nights is when I have a bottle of Bourbon, and having the blues backing tracks and playing along with my old Les Paul just jamming. Yep the blues greats are still with us as long as we keep their music alive. Rock on John!!!!!!!
+hammer 1963 I live out in Washington state and just started playing learning to play some slide blues . Just wondering where you get your tracks from. Email at howardmorris540@gmail.com
Did you make it out to the Duluth blues fest? I missed it but my wife and I drove out to chicago a few weeks ago and caught the Buddy Guy show at his legends club. It was a blast.
Buddy Guy with Eric Clapton at any Crossroads concert, is about the best of R & B guitar today. Rob Cray, John Mayer are trailing just behind, in my humble pie opinion....
John Lee Hooker songs were the very first live music I heard in my life besides my mother's lullabyes and one trip to the circus. In 1954, I was 5 living in Asheville, NC, and my mother had a black woman named Beulah Huggins working as what used to be called a "maid", cooking and cleaning and taking care of me and my little brother. While working she would sing snatches of songs, which I later found on records, or heard on the Memphis clear channel on my 2-transistor radio under my pillow after bedtime. She'd improvise: "One Bourbon, one Scotch-- one little bitty beer," she'd sing. That was 63 years ago, and now I'm one of those senior bluesmen, filling the same role for kids (and their parents) that Hooker did for me. I ain't getting out of these blues alive either, John, I'm on my way. The more you think through stuff, the more you know The more the burden of your knowledge upon you. The deeper you dive into the sea of your time The deeper the shade of blue. I've had me some bottles, and had me some women The bottles get empty, and the women go away And I've had the blues about the one and the other But that ain't why I'm singing today. I'm rolling through the Big Sky of Billings, Montana, Refineries all around me to my left and my right They say the Indians and the prairie gave way to the settlers But I don't think they're getting it right The Little Big Horn they call Custer's Last Stand The last victory of those who once lived here alone All quiet the guns now, but the memories forever Remain, though the buffalo's gone It might be inspiration, it might be desperation, Might even be depression way down in my soul But whatever you call it, I'm singing these blues With these hands on the wheel as I roll Watermelon Slim
When I Wake Up and crawl out of bed the Blues makes my ass start moving all day long. Kick up the Rockin Blues and play it loud to shake me till I'm feeling alright.
Love it! :D 1. Serve you right to suffer 2. One bourbon, one scotch and one beer 3. I'll never get out of these blues alive 4. I Want You To Roll Me 5. Boom boom 6. I'm in the mood 7. Look what she done to my life 8. Rock steady 9. Boogie Chillin
The music is a gift, the people are a path. Something untouched and given freely as part of the whole being. I wish I could take it apart and label it but then it. The closest thing to it so far is the title SOUL.
Brothers and Sisters, the blues go back a Long time, its a beautiful sound, dont put it down, no one has make up on to sell a record, that is music, BB King, John Lee Hooker, etc. There gone, RIP, my brothers, + Jimmi Hendrix, SRV, Alvin Lee, Johnny Winter. GOD Bless You for all the SHOWS!
Hey I am a retired 75 yr old man. But don't let that hinder you. I first dot attached to the blues in college hanging out with some white boys. You know they love their blues. From then on I took up the harmonica and the guitar. Incidentally my background is Caribbean ; blues just took over me. Now I am trying to get deep down into it. " people don't seem tp understand this is the greatest form of MUSIC. " The BLUES " I also have to say Mr Johnny Lee Hooker" ROCKS. RickyGWStClair.
You know what's amazing listening to this? (Of course other than the awesome blues music) Whether directly, or indirectly, you can HEAR the building blocks of what so many other guitarists took from
So much to be proud of listening to this music. One of the predecessors of Muddy Waters, et all. One of the greats! This is why I love the blues. Ee-gads! We're even listening to rock n roll here. So many building blocks!!!
Almighty Lord, I ask for Your blessings of patience and perseverance for everyone. Help them to remain steadfast in their faith and trust in Your timing.
Nothing against Joe B but the Blues I love and enjoy are played by men who lived it and I feed on that to fuel my passion cause I lived it as well, maybe not to the extent they did but I lived it in some form. Elmore James , Robert Johnson, Bukka White , Muddy Waters are my blues hero's. enough said about that. Good evening gentleman.
The Real Old Blues don’t call for no jumping. If you go to jumping, that ain’t the Blues. They can name it the Blues, but it ain’t the Blues. The Blues is just by itself. That’s the Blues. When you done got lonesome and worried. Don’t know what to do. Thinking about your loved ones and people that you wanna be nice to you and you been nice to them but they ain’t and you’re deceived by them…. I trusted them with everything I had. I done everything. I turned my heart to them with faith and belief in them, and then they get up and deceive me. Now you don’t know whether to cut their throat or to cry again. That’s the Blues. B-L-U-S-E. You cry and you cry alone. Weep alone. Then you wanna shut up in the room someplace, you don’t want no company too much. You not mad with the other people but you wanna lock your door and get in there where you can cry a good fashion. Hear somebody knocking on your door. You don’t wanna hear them. It’s not you’re mad with them; you don’t want no company right now.You wanna sit down and concentrate in your own mind. You don’t want no bothering, not even with daddy, sister, or mama. Nobody. Oh, I wish they would go away…”
That's the blues, but there is also joy in it, maybe you are depressed, you should seek help, take some medication, depression can really fuck you up to the point you can't even enjoy this beautifull music. And just get away from those people while you can :) Stay well my friend
