John Legend Being Iconic in Jesus Christ Superstar 

I absolutely love this version. JL is an interesting cast but he nails it even though his range is different. His absolute soul shines through. Sara absolutely nails it as Mary too. As a diehard fan on the orig film I love this!

I enjoyed this production. John’s voice is a favorite of mine but I ado miss the high notes. The final scene I found to be very effective. I am very glad this production was executed in this series of broadcasts of Musicals.

JC Superstar was the first live play I ever watched. It was at my university, and I was mesmerized. For Maritimers, Raylene Rankin played Mary Magdalin! I think this is awesome awesome ❤

I needed this. Happy Reserection Sunday, y'all. (Maybe a bit early, but not really) I enjoy a fresh take, giving a new perspective. Idk, but I think the audience was so anticipating the high note in Gethsemane that they clapped a bit early and longer where Legend wasn't able to hit the high note as perhaps he could have done if it wasn't for the reaction of the audience. With everything going on in the world and personally and that it's hard for me to shed tears, this performance has my tears flowing!! Thank you, John Legend, you have put me exactly where I'm supposed to be! I'm grateful! In just a few weeks, we will be praising and singing Because He Lives!! P.S. Audiences of many kinds, I feel, don't give a performance enough respect as they should. A performer, put their All in it. I don't think many people realize that. Much respect for this performance. But only a few performers can play Jesus!! Happy Easter to the world! 🕊

I think John did great. I don't compare him to those who played the role before him; I just appreciate his unique version. He can't hit the high notes, but his voice is so rich in his lower register. I enjoyed his performance.

I saw this on Broadway, even then I knew this wasn't totally about Jesus, it was more about Judas.

He sings wonderfully, but he misses the edginess of Carl Anderson.

John is a fabulous singer but he is definitely not the best Jezus.

The most iconic songs “sang” by John Legend? Really?? The word is SUNG. Basic grammar.

John Legend is flat as Jesus. There's just not enough passion coming from him.

Nope, this one is not for me! Gethsemane is Gethsemane because of that high note. Missing it completely takes away from the emotion of the song.

Does "iconic" have another definition I'm not aware of? If not, I believe the adjective you are looking for is "embarrassing."

Just my opinion, but this is the worst reading of this role in the worst production of Superstar to date.

Another case of the wrong person for this musical if not any musical The only one who came close to Ted Neeley i have seen was Steve Balsamo. But John Legend is not even close.
