Exactly!! Who else wrote " Yesterday", and Sgt. Pepper was all you had ? Yeah, thats about Bob Hope!! John had an ego from adolescence. He was jealous of Paul's ease of songwriting. He attacked Paul on writing "Silly Love Songs". The comment hurt Paul so HE retaliated by writing the song " Silly Love Songs " . Paul wrote the more romantic songs in the Beatles. John dismissed the early Beatles songs as throw aways and meaningless! He later tells George Martin he wanted to re record all the songs he sung. John flip flopped his statements frequently. He is doing right now! Paul has stated many times that the song How Do You Sleep really hurt his feelings. Alan Klein stated the lyric about Yesterday was all you did. In John's documentary, he is on video telling Klein that was a great line, and he and Harrison had a good laugh. John told the engineer to keep the line in the song. So , I cry bullshit on John. He says he and Paul are OK. Yeah, now! By this time they resolved things, but the distance was still there. Thats around the time John was killed. John's last words to Paul was " Think of me now and then " . This is spooky as if he knew death was imminent. I would hope that now John's issues are resolved and he would " get back " to singing the Beatles early style, George and John are just waiting for the 2 Brothers to join them and play for all in heaven!
@@gvgv3515 Both of you guys are dumb af. He's talking about Paul in the song but in reality he was going through a shit period in his life. He was bitter and resentful of the beatles. The song was written in 1971, not too long after the band had split. He was tired of it all. This interview is from 1975. He was much more reflective at this point.
I bet the music wouldn't have had the same Beatles impact. They had been split up for too long. There's something to be said for momentum and lack thereof.
@@nunyafunyuns straight up nah. they can all write and produce bangers independent of the others. so all of them coming back together after having a decade experience with eachother. i agree with Drsimmonsphd and his nah
We’re you listening? That song is Paul’s but he’s talking about himself or revealing himself when he talks about Paul’s song. About his bitterness, which we all have, and about his points of view. He knows best what it’s about. Then again, you can make it about whatever you want.
@Jordan Peters He was definitely pissed at Paul. Have you seen the clip of John trying to record this song with Phil Spector? He clearly had some negative emotions towards Paul, but that's ok. We're all only human.
John would only care about hurting the people he truly loves, even brotherly love to Paul. The stories that Paul shares of how he and John talk often on phone are nice, then John was sadly murdered. I kind of think that They would have gotten together for a song or two if possible.
He wrote it about Paul but in this clip he is saying that looking back it’s more about himself and his feelings, not about someone else’s bad qualities, but more about who he was at that time and what led him to feel that way. This clip makes me feels nice about the Beatles.
John and Paul were not on I'll terms, but how do you sleep was written because John was mad at Paul, sgt pepper really caught you by surprise is towards all of the media and assholes doubting the Beatles after their hiatus and in reality they were working on that masterpiece, thats a jab at them, then yesterday was all you had an stuff was about Paul because behind John's back Paul went to the press about the Beatles breakup which infuriated John whom didn't want it to end for the fans and us alike, in the end John and Paul and George and Ringo just wanted us to be happy, and to pursue the main message of the Beatles whole theme, Love, Embracing Love, Real Love
i know people are quoting lyrics misunderstand what hes saying, emotionally his songs tended to be about himself even if he didn't realise they were at the time of writing it - it's the exact same story with the song Help! The lyrics may not apply directly to him, and the song *is* in retaliation, but let's be real john hated himself more than he could hate paul. taking lyrics too literally, just like any poetry or story, will likely have you missing massive subtext and media literacy on every level.
it's great how you can make up any old nonsense later on to justify things. everybody knows this song is about Paul it's not about John and he knows it too he's just trying to excuse himself " _the only thing you done was yesterday_ "
@@duruuzun1355there is actually a photo of him (and the rest of the beatles) in the 60s wearing makeup they put on themselves. John had killer eyeliner 😂
@ he owned up for years. He’s said that all his songs are about him for a long time and that’s the truth. They are all reflections of how he’s feeling at the time. The typical listener only hears the literal. Brains naturally try to make things make sense for them in the easiest possible way. Conceptually every song he writes is his perspective so it’s impossible for any songwriter to write beyond what’s they themselves feel. That’s on a macro scale. On a granular level John felt his ire in that song, while mentioning Paul iconography, were really about his own human emotions. They were close as brothers and family is complex. He was certainly owning up, he printed his lyrics on his album and gave candid interviews at the time. He then later reflected and realized it was about him. I know I have said nasty stuff that was a cover for my own feelings.
