His announcing was synonymous to the game for me growing up as a millennial who was able to enjoy his commentary on FOX, Monday Night Football, and through the Madden games. It actually hit me hard to know he passed just after watching his documentary on Christmas. He will always be remembered.

This was beautifully stated by Colin. He got to the core of who the man was. I believe in the John Madden that Colin describes. There is never enough reflection on the intelligence that is always front and center in being great at anything. It sets the moral code in one’s character. This man’s character is without a doubt immeasurable. R.I.P. John Madden.

Good take by Cowherd. I remember I fell in love with football in 2004 after my first year in pop Warner. We were winless and our coaches were poor. After that season, I began playing the madden games, and I remembered his broadcasts on certain players, positions, schemes and personnel taught me about the game. Now I'm a teacher and a football coach at the middle school I work at and John Madden had an influence on my football journey as a player and a coach. RIP Madden.

Posted this on Facebook. John Madden …………………. As you may be aware John Madden passed away today. At age 6, my first team was The Oakland Raiders, and my first coach was John Madden. (Plus my first NFL Game was at The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in 1973 with my Dad. Oakland defeating Denver 21 -17.) On Sunday’s in the fall, all of the streets in the Bay Area got quite when the Raiders played. No Team was more exciting, with more fantastic finishes than the Seventies Raiders. The Immaculate Reception, The Sea of Hands, Ghost to The Post, and The Holy Roller to name just a few. Oakland fans knew early what the rest of the world found out. John Madden was special. A special man, a special coach, with a special heart. ❤️ Throughout my life I have collected memories that hold a special place in my heart, … and make it all worth it. Memories of John Madden & The Seventies Raiders provide a warm glow in my heart that burns even today. ☀️ Thank you coach, for All of The Great Memories! 🥰🏴‍☠️🏈

Imagine coaching for 10 years and only losing 32 regular season games, that’s 3 games a season. If the all time great Steelers team wasn’t there at the same time, I’d wager he’d have a 2-3 more rings. I was too young to understand his coaching greatness when I watched growing up, but John Madden helped me learn to love the professional game like no one else could. RIP to a legend

My dad and mom grew up watching Cosell, Gifford, and Meredith on MNF. My younger brother and I grew up watching John Madden and Pat Summerall on FOX NFL SUNDAY. Madden NFL '96 on Playstation and Madden NFL '04 on PS2. This really is sad news. The man will always bleed silver and black, and he was football. John Madden is one of the main ingredients of the "Autumn Wind". From a Cowboys fan, he was one of the best. RIP John Madden. 😢😭

He turned that Raider team into the meanest team EVER. That offensive line almost all of them ended up in the HOF. Teams were petrified of playing them, total hardcore dysfunctional players that became the most functional winningest team for over a decade. They could have won more SB's with him but won 2 shortly afterwards as he had laid the foundation of the Raider mystique - combined with Al Davies mentality of US AGAINST EVERYONE - It was a powerhouse of a team. I remember him for his coaching more than anything else. As a Raider fan, it's engraved in our DNA. Greatest winning coach the Raiders will ever have and of ALL-TIME. My father was 20 yrs older than Madden, I am 20 years younger than Madden. Growing up in DC, Madden loved the hogs and highlighted each of them in big big games. Loved his commentary on the Cowboys and Giants and Eagles. As a coach, he took a California team east in the playoffs in frigid weather and beat the Steelers and the Colts in the playoffs. Something the 49ers and Rams, who won playoff games mostly at home, could never do. Also the Raiders, along with the Chiefs, featured HBCU players who became standouts and all pros and Hall of Famers. The Raiders versus Colts OT playoff game, the Immaculate Reception game, and ALL of the Raiders vs Steelers were incredible games, decided by always a field goal or extra point!

John Madden is essentially a head coach that is the eternal student of the game. While he never played the game himself, he knew more about the game than most other players that played the game and I only know of a few people that could be considered as his equals at the game...Chris Petersen, of the Boise State University and the Washington State University fame, Bill Belicheck of the Green Bay Packers and the New England Patriots fame, Mike Vrabel of the Tennessee Titans fame, Tony Dungy of the Indianapolis Colts fame, Frank Deig and John Gagliardi of the University of Saint Thomas (Minnesota) fame, and Larry Kehres and Vance Kehres of the University of Mount Union (Ohio) fame.

Great tribute to John Madden. Colin gave an equally great tribute to Ken Stabler when he passed. Madden and Stabler shaped my fanhood as a kid, born in 1966. Unfortunately they were my first two tastes of reality in sports. Madden retired after 1978, Stabler was traded away after 1979. John Madden, Ken Stabler, Al Davis, and the rest of the Oakland Raiders did as much to promote the NFL as anyone other team or individual through the 1970's.

confirms my theory that some of Colin's best segments are his eulogies. RIP JM

Rest In Peace John … I can’t believe there are people out there trying to say John was a bad person and a racist. He is beloved by many and many will say that he was never anything but the guy he presented himself to be … please don’t fall into the lies and speculation
