This is pure awesomeness... You are setting the benchmark so high that we won't able to achieve something like this in our lifetime. Each time when you bring the contrasts up or down to bring things out my heart thuds...

I don’t understand how you get so much detail when your pencils always look so dull?

how do you avoid the 'glare' when using graphites, Lorenzo?
@LorenzoBovo
@LorenzoBovo 4 года назад
You avoid it by choosing charcoal! :) Joking aside, the only way, even if it is not 100% effective, is to use graphite fixative sprays with an opaque effect.

@@LorenzoBovo Hmm...I see. But the fixative will alter some of the tonal values, yes? Do you use fixative on most of your graphite works or rather leave them as it is? Your work is fantastic as always and thank you, Lorenzo for taking the time to respond!

@@chara372 If you use good quality fixatives (Winsor&Newton, Caran d'Ache for example), you won't have problems with tone variation. In my works, you will have seen that I use a paper blender on the whole drawing, by pressing a lot the graphite... only in this case you can do without using the spray, because the graphite is already strongly fixed on the paper. :)

@@LorenzoBovo Thanks Lorenzo! Very helpful. Yes I've observed your using the pencil blender/ tortillion. My main concern was the 'glare' due to the pressing and hard blending and by using fixatives (to fix the glare...not so much about the pigments adhering to the paper), it alters the tonal values. That's the one thing that bothers me when I try graphite. I was afraid that if I use fixative (a good brand) to fix the glare, it will alter the tonal hues.🤷🏻‍♀️ Nevertheless, I will try my hand on graphite again. You've been great, Lorenzo!🤗💕
