This song asks you to embrace it all. To reference another John Maus song, Heaven Is Real, "Love the world and love all man". This song is a celebration of life. Love life my friend, in all its pain and beauty.
john maus is my go to for everything ! whether I'm sad, happy, upset, especially when I get high like I am right now, my oh my does john maus take over my playlist. He's my FAVORITE. Theres no one else lile him and his music ( believe me I searched a lot ) I would LOVE to see him perform that would be... amazing and I would probably cry (and I'm not the crying type) his music leaves me in awe. ♡
Ok. Now.. My son just knows portuguese n asked me.. dad, this is our music.. and I said, "Yes, this is our sound man.." he's like 6 years old.. n he asked me what Does it mean? The lyrics.. them He got it.. n we said again.. yes.. this is our music... We love this sound..
I love that both versions exist. I feel the “I Don’t Eat Human Beings” is not only a proper closet but the ONLY closer suited for the comp album “A Collection of Rarities and Previously Unreleased Material”. That album acts more as a concise record rather than a mere compilation album. There’s many more great unreleased Maus songs (The River, Enterprise, Night of the World, I’ve Got Problems, etc) that are bound to appear on future releases, most likely another compilation album, but possibly even on studio records in the same way 1987 and I Want To Live appeared on Addendum. Aside from my tangent, both versions are astounding. I think comparing them in terms of quality is almost a waste and an injustice to the greatness of each track (just my personal friendly opinion) 🙂
Its that clear, decisive tonality; i gadgeated from H.S. in 1983, I never heard about him till a month ago. There you go for small towns (Touchet, Wa - next to Walla Walla, WA)- ha! ...and he's a Philosophy prof. Would have LoVed to attended his classes. Dont forget- his song "Believer" is in the soundtrack of newly released DVD movie "Teacher"!!!
i just realized that this is the second comment I have bumped into posted by you today. which is insane if you calculate the odds. so i am your kindred soul and youtube subscriber
John Maus still Lives! Oh yes.... He is still way ahead of the curve. Or one of the pioneers of the current musical curve! Lots of straight lines being drawn around us.. Listen to the questions this man asks....(well I would recommend it.
I´m on a road there with me uh me i wanna say everything i wanna hold everyone i wanna say everythin but i am so far away from me so far away from me so far so far away from me ...
I wanna hold everyone in the world I wanna say everything But I’m so far away from home All joy for all eternity Appeals to the agape love he alludes to so much in Love is Real... I notice he uses the same high pitch, whistling synth in this track that is also in Heaven is Real and Tenebrae. I feel like there’s a connection there...
