@@justinwright3326 Not really. Unless you look at other lessons, it has a lot of complicated parts. Even the rythm guitar has tons of hendrix style hammerons. The solo is reasonable, but only really if you have a very practiced ear.
Looks like starting this channel proved to be the best decision for us AND you! Thanks for what you do man, imagine how many people would’ve given up on guitar/never started had you not been here doing your thing. The lord’s work.
Love Marty's tutorials, however if you're lookin for a serious challenging Gravity lesson, check out Jamie Harrison. He does a note for note Where the Light Is Version for like $30-$35.
Hey Marty, thanks for the John Mayer Daughter lesson. That was my daughter’s wedding song. Her husband’s name is joe and I wanted to play “het Joe where you going with my daughter in you Hand”. Luckily my wife overrode my idea 😀
I love how you teach songs! I love that you explain the basis of theory, which helps me visualize how the song was written, which then helps me come up with new ideas for my own songs! Anytime I feel like I am in a guitar playing rut, plateau, or lack of creativity I always learn a song from you and it breeds new ideas! Thank you marty, I have been watching your videos for 10 years now... You've taught me so much, what's crazy is I've never even met you. I owe you so much
Hey Marty, love what you do. A new song I've recently been listening to is "Vampire Weekend - Sunflower ft. Steve Lacy" it has some really nice guitar work and I'd love to see a tutorial for that song, not really any good ones on RU-vid that I've found and I'd frankly just like to hear you play it. Either way, you've taught me a lot and I appreciate it a ton, music really makes a change in my life. Keep up the good work :)
For the second chord ( the Em11) keep the original first chord shape as you illustrate and shift the index finger and ring finger over a string and lift your middle finger off the fretboard. On the third chord, simply life your ring finger also to form the 2 note "Asus 7/9" chord.
Marty, love your lessons! This really makes learning fun, quick, and effective. I already added 3 songs to my library from you. I’ve always wanted to learn this song. Thank you!
Great lesson, thank you for all the songs you post! I would love to learn how to play Stop this train by John Mayer. Such an amazing and emotional song!
Thanks man, that was a great lesson. I’ve been using a lot of these JM chords in my original set of songs and allayed loved this tune. I hope to be using some of these chords in some new songs, just transcribing the ones I have to the JM jazzy inversions. Thank you son much.
On the second chord in the verse (Em7 ) you might alternatively play the A string on the 7th fret (E), and on the 3rd chord (Asus4) let the A string ring open. These alternatives make it so you don't have to do that tricky mute thing on the A string. Also on the chorus (Fathers be good to your daughters...) on the second chord Mayer appears to play a simple E7 (5th string 7th fret, 4th string 6th fret, 3th string 7th fret) with open low E , B and high E strings. On the verse the second chord could be played 5th string 7th fret, 4th string 5th fret, and 3rd string 7th fret - almost the same form as on the chorus but with the 4th string 1/2 step lower thus making it a minor. Sounds very much the same to me, but maybe a little easier to play. For what it's worth.. Anyway great job Marty.. I was struggling a bit with this one. Thanks.
Wonderful lesson Marty - thank you! On the original recording I'm struggling to hear that Gb/Bb chord after the A7. I'm hearing Mayer holding that A7 chord and then going to Bm7. But regardless I love the sound of that Gb/Bb chord in there!
Hey Marty. I've got a suggestion for a guitar lesson video. You should try listen to a song called Good Things Fall Apart by ILLENIUM. It was pretty recently released. It's got some pretty simple guitar chords in it and has some great tabs to learn. Its intro is also pretty awesome and fun to try learn. It would be a great lesson to teach. I think you should give it a shot. Thanks for reading!
Hey Marty. I have learned a lot of songs from your tutorials. And they are very accurate. Can you please transcribe "the new deep" John mayer. If you have not already?
Found this song really challenging. Love it but my pinky didn't want to stay planted. Don't have the longest fingers so trying to watch my thumb placement to try and get a better stretch on the chords. Open for suggestion.
