such a beautiful song and add their own light and special touch to it!! Remakes from talented, true, unique and real platinum recording artists are something to be embraced and felt...thats all!! John Mayer isn't taking credit for the song, he simply took an original classic from one of the greatest musical artists and Americans of our time, whom he was prolly inspired by as a child, and played it from his heart n made it "his own". Music is created to hear n heal the soul..not to be critiqued
Mayer does sound like a teenage boy in this song but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I think this version suits him/his personality. Mayer's got nice vocal and executed it very well which gives a different interpretation of the song. This cover might not, ahem, make me blush like Bruce's does but it did put a smile on my face. Some might prefer Bruce's or Johnny Cash but hey this cover is obviously not trash.
+Rut Enheim there is no better version. This is just a song, it is just music. Not really sure how one can say this is better. Good or bad? Better or worse? These are based on preference. That goes for any song.
just because someone has a different opinion than you and even if there opinion wasn't needed, doesn't mean you have the right to tell someone to kill themselves, even if you are joking, nobody should ever be told to do that people take things more seriously than you could ever know.
A couple more observations; the war drum sounds interesting, but gives an originally slow song a slightly rushed feel, and also can't tell if he keeps plucking or not, sounds like he switches to strumming, or he is just plucking really softly. I guess if he gets even one jaded younger person to like this awesome song, then it's an A+ for John : )
Hey little girl, is your daddy home? Did he go and leave you all alone? Mhmm I got a bad desire Oh, oh, oh, I'm on fire Tell me now, baby, is he good to you? And can he do to you the things that I do? Oh no I can take you higher Oh, oh, oh, I'm on fire Sometimes it's like someone took a knife, baby Edgy and dull and cut a six inch valley Through the middle of my skull At night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet And a freight train running through the middle of my head Only you can cool my desire Oh, oh, oh, I'm on fire Oh, oh, oh, I'm on fire Oh, oh, oh, I'm on fire Woo-ooh-ooh Woo-ooh-ooh Ooh-ooh-ooh Woo-ooh-ooh Woo-ooh-ooh
Would just like to refer to an earlier comment (Mary Rodgers), if you listen closely in the original, Bruce does actually say skull. Well, that's how I hear it anyway, but I could aways be wrong.
1985? impossible, since it was recorded in February, 1982(written?...only Bruce knows when he wrote his song), was released on 'Born In The USA' in 1984 & as a single February 6th, 1985. all this according to the Wikipedia page dedicated to the song 'I'm On Fire' by the one & only Bruce Springsteen.
No, you are mistaken. The word is "soul" not "skull". Check out the lyrics. Don't just google for the lyrics, go to the official Springsteen site, the words of all his songs are posted there.
Don't like the lack of crude synth and the way he restarts a verse with a high note, for example "at night I wake up with the sheets soakin' wet, and a freight train runnin' through the........MIDDLE! Of my head!" But he is a great artist and I commend him for having the good taste in music that makes you cover such great underrated songs. Peace.
Hey God loves you and He sent His Son to die on the cross for your sins, but His Son Jesus Christ decided to die for you He didn't have too but He chose to die on the cross for your sins, because He loves you not loved you loves you present tense. So three days later on Easter He rose again conquering death and trampling over the devil, so He rose again and He is coming back for His children Christians. And you can go to Heaven simply by confessing your sins to Jesus Christ "God", and the. Believing in all of this in your heart and then finally Confessing Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Just wanted to let you know that good sir or ma'am. God bless sir or madam.
Fer Ramirez I think Stefan misinterpreted your question. He must have thought you meant “why, is Bold as Love on Spotify?” If not, that dude must just have pointed it out for the sake of it. Sharing some expert knowledge, perhaps.
oooooooooooh interesting. i still think Bruce's version is my favorite. it's dripping with sex. however, this has almost more longing and earnestness, and i find that interesting.
im a massive Springsteen fan, the greatest and most relevant rocker the world has ever seen but this is simply brilliant version of one of Bruce's greatest hits.!! Love it
Ya know, it makes me laugh and sad at the same time, how so many have forgotten what life is about at all...I spent the last two yrs in serving in Afghanistan where the only sounds that brought peace to any of our souls, was music. I bet with everything I am that if The Boss and John Mayer sat down together discussing this remake, The Boss would be honored and proud knowing someone with such incredible talent as John Mayer who has touched the lives of millions, as did The Boss, wanted to take
First of all thank you for your service and I appreciate you! Second, your right music is that stillness and calmness where you dont really get anywhere else.
Different rather than better. I personally like Cash's vocals a lot better for this song, as well as the somewhat more raw instrumentation. Its just a matter of taste when it comes to music.
I really couldn't tell you. I've only heard Cash's version and this one. He did a bunch of covers up until he died so it wouldn't surprise me if it was Springsteen's song.
Amen @SuperSkip28. John Mayer is amazing. He has qualities that majority of musicians today dont have.. He has soul and his music has meaning. Other than most who talk about booty calls, sex sex sex, and money. John mayer is a fucking legend!!
Hey little girl is your daddy home Did he go away and leave you all alone I got a bad desire Oh, oh, oh, I'm on fire Tell me now pretty baby is he good to you Can he do to you the things that I do I can take you higher Oh, oh, oh, I'm on fire OH oh oh im on fire It's like someone took a knife Edgy and dull and cut a six-inch valley Through the middle of my skull At night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet And a freight train running through the middle of my head Only you can cool my desire Oh, oh, oh I'm on fire Oh, oh, oh I'm on fire Hey little girl is your daddy home Did he go away and leave you all alone I got a bad desire Oh, oh, oh I'm on fire Tell me now baby is he good to you Can he do to you the things that I do I can take you higher Oh, oh, oh I'm on fire I'm on fire I'm on fire I'm on fire Read more: John Mayer - I'm On Fire Lyrics | MetroLyrics
You ever fall in love with someone your not supposed to then they fall in love with you back and realize they can’t handle all the lying and guilt so you have to stop because you love them but you wonder how they could have ever let you go knowing that there was so much more left to do together. Then you realize it’s been months and almost a year now and we have talked and she won’t answer back and I’m still completely in love and she is still married.
The Boss sings "skull," not "soul." He probably wrote it that way because it's a more vivid image and a better rhyme with "dull." However it may appear on some lyric sheets, if you check out other performances, Bruce sings skull, as John has noticed as well.
Everyone saying "Not as good as the original", do you seriously think an artist has that goal in mind? You cover a song because it has meaning to you or has touched you in some way, shape or form. I'm sure John himself would say this isn't near as good. That's not the point. It's his interpretation. A cover of a song he also loves like all of you. Listen and enjoy. Stop comparing every damn thing.
+BlacKnightRising it's funny that you said no soul to this because he actually changed the line "middle of my soul" to "middle of my skull." So there is quite literally no soul to this.
