"You think you're better than me, do you have a perfume, a show a book" He didn't have bad intentions but his jokes got misunderstood, so he adapted to stop offending people because they didn't understand his sarcasm.
Too smart for his own good:) People like John are cursed with quick wit and an enormous amount of intelligent which results in an insane amount of good humored sarcasm which unfortunately rubs some the wrong way. I fucking love him!
lightninboy1979 Totally agree. I think a big part of it was the culture differences as well though. Seemed like some things were getting lost in translation. But yeah, I do agree that his quick wit was putting him 5 steps ahead of them the entire interview. Like when he jokes about the guitar being a reality show, perfume rolled up in one and the lady goes "... OH!" with a placid look about her.
i think artists should just do what theyre really into, otherwise is seems kind of fake and more like a simulation instead of the real thing. and yes...id fucking kill for a fully recorded john mayer blues album ''who did you think i was'' style.
"this is one of the best interviews I've done in a year" oh god I really don't want to see the rest then😂 I get why John had a difficult relationship with the press at this point in his career, and hence probably why he was acting a bit aloof at the beginning
Nah, he's all right. As a Norwegian I can vouch for the fact that this TV show is always cringy. It's a horrible show. It was nice to see John stir things up a bit.
there was some culture clash but the audience ate him up while he played with the host and dazzled the woman with the perfume, book and car. I didn't realize Mayer was such a smooth cat
MrMellowstrings lol not really. Our former foreign minister is a little bit stiff. And that woman is Swedish i think... I think most Norwegians would find mayer funny and hella charming
The first minute of this interview is so freakin cringy 😨, not sure if I can watch the rest lol. Cultural differences , obviously but damn it's hard to watch lol
typical american bullshit haha. this is fucking norway dude, do you know how much saver that country is compared to the US? no gang shootings around there buddy.
+winston Churchill He actually is.. Eric Clapton claims he is better than himself.. And he is rated No. 3 top guitarist of all time. TLDR - A lot of people disagree with you :)
+Torstein Nystrøm I agree with u! I was never a fan of him before because I was turned off by the slow love ballads... But I just saw him on tour with the grateful dead and I was impressed.... Afterwards I did some research on him and found out how talented he is, how much he's written, who he's collaborated with. I am truly a fan of his musical skills now. He's also a great singer. I would say he is definitely one of the best, if not the best, guitarist of his generation... That's for sure. Even some of the best guitarists, like Clapton and bob weir and others think he is great.
Torstein Nystrøm That is very faulty.Look at gary moore Bloomfield Freddie,Albert.bb king etc. This is in the blues genre. But you are talking about one of the best to ever play the guitar throughout genres. You know how absurd that is. Granted its all subjective but that statement that he is one of the best is very wrong to an astronomical level. You could say eric clapton is one of the best and i wouldent blame you. Because eric has proven himself for decades. And he is entitled to that title. If you are talking of this generation sure he might be one of the best but if you are talking all time you are out of your mind. No disrespect
winston Churchill yeah I think to say of all time is a bit of a reach... But if you're talking about his generation, then he absolutely is one of the best of his time. He's extremely talented and I was impressed with his collaboration with the grateful dead... But there's no way you can rank him among the best of all time... There's many other guitarists that I personally think have and will continue to make a lasting impact on music. Many guitarists who I think are candidates for being among the best to ever play come from the rock n roll era in the 60s and 70s mainly.
