8th of July (7th in the northern hemisphere) 2009 John Mayer performed at the Michael Jackson Memorial. He talks to Larry King about the day the world came together to remember the King Of Pop.
I cannot understand why people hate this man. He's such a talented person and yet he still manages to be so respectful and thoughtful. Thank you for sharing this with us.
@@johnvlasiou3222 uhhhh you might wanna go to tiktok or his Grammy performance announcement on Instagram. People definitely hate him, and most of it is for shit he did over a decade ago
+Alex Wilson " Respect to him just playing on guitar. He didn't went too far just a respectful fan that's it ! " You mean he didn't "GO" too far. And yes, I agree with you.
John Mayer is not only a brilliant guitar player/musician but in my view a person of superior intellect. Watch his interviews, his insights, his sense of humour. He's amazing.
Mayer's rendition of Human Nature was one of the best performances of the ceremony. I remember him and Stevie Wonder most vividly. I love the respect he has for Michael's music, despite never meeting him personally. I'm just impressed that he was able to get up there and do it. I've played a lot of live music in my lifetime, but if I had been asked to play an MJ tune at his funeral......I don't think I could do it.
This interview and performance by John Mayer means so much to me. Michael Jackson was my idol and his passing was devastating. I had always wanted to be a musician but felt that I had a limited vocal range and thought there was no point of me trying. I always thought of the guitar/ piano as an accompanying tool rather than a way to express oneself without the limitations of one's natural voice. I finally "got it" when watching him play Human Nature and not sing. Shortly after watching this interview, I picked up the guitar and through lessons on youtube, DVDs, a few one-on-one lessons and shit-tons of practise. The guitar opened my mind up to musicians I would have never really paid attention to; Buddy Guy, BB King, Eric Clapton; and really appreciate the genius of artists like Prince. I saw John Mayer in concert in 2014, it was so surreal. The decision to pick up the guitar is one of the best decision I have ever made in my life. Thank you John.
The guitar is the best instrument in the world, hands down. Nothing, and i mean absolutely nothing can convey emotion, and give a connection to your true self, then the guitar can. When i play, i compare it to opening a bottle and pouring whatever is inside all out. It speaks, when i can't. And hopefully, from musician to musician, it does the same for you.
John Mayer is also my role model for playing the guitar and I’m still learning and trying to grow as a guitar player but I’m glad I picked it up. I personally love string instruments as I played a little violin in my high school orchestra as well. They’re like an extension of your body and soul
+Eunjoo Boo " His respectful attitude tells why he is one of the eminent musicians of our generation." His respectful attitude? I'm not so sure about that.
Michael was my idol, I grew up with his music and when he passed I was devastated It was at this memorial that I discovered John Mayer and wondered what I had been missing all these years. Whilst Michael will always remain a legend to me, John is my new idol. This man is the most incredible musician and song writer I have ever know. Watching this video and hearing him talk about my other idol, brings a tear to my eye.
John Mayer's MJ Memorial rendition of "Human Nature" was perfection - simply beautiful - and brought tears to all who truly loved MJ's musical genius because it exactly captured the gentleness and beauty of Michael's composition. Mayer's performance was truly one of the memorial's highest forms of respect -- in honoring "the presence of his absence." Well said, John, and beautifully done.
this has got to be probably the most sincere i've ever seen John Mayer. being the funny, goofy guy he usually is, this a step taken that none of us has seen. i think he articulated very well how much respect he has for Michael Jackson, his music and his family.
This is the first serious interview ive seen john do, and ive seen a lot, being a huge fan of him. Very somber, mature. And the first thing i thought when he said that he was invited was "Human Nature." I wanted to scream when he started playing it. Thank you John.
I am so proud to be a fan of John Mayer. Things like this just make me want to sing his praises that much more. Anyone who questions why he was at the memorial just doesn't get it.
I loved the fact that out of respect he chose not to sing the song and just play it where people could just appreciate the music Michael gave us. I saw a side of John that was sweet, sincere, and classy and he's made mistakes like all of us have.Love you John!!Your amazing at singing and playing the guitar and your personality seems amazing person as well.
i remember thinking it was going to be a jaw dropping performance and being a bit not impressed, but over time i think its amazing how he played it so simply
I love it when RU-vid sends me recommendations on what to watch. John just makes sense. He makes that guitar hit the notes he wants to sing. It's like the thing has a voice, when he plays it, it sings. You can almost hear the words pouring out of the guitar. Maybe its just me. That's one of my favorite MJ songs and I got to hear it from John. It was epic. @daliksheppy Agree about the Usher stuff and I see Usher being to Justin beiber what MJ was to Usher. Usher likes seeing green that's why
watch the head flickering while watching himself, haha uncontrolled. a great guitarist, and i love his vocals. he has a way of saying things everyone thinks but cant find the words which also makes him a good lyricist. we are lucky to have him
You're welcome mate. And I totally get where you're coming from with John. I love hearing him talk because you just don't know what he is going to say next. Just like hearing the lyrics to a new song for the first time. You're just in awe.
probably the most impressive performance along with Stevie Wonder's...they just gave soo much heart and soul into it. I bet he was nervous but honoured . I love Human Nature, its a beautiful song from the heart. Does anyone else think that Mayer kinda looks like he could be Johnny Depps little brother? I didnt realise he was THAT handsome...no wonder why he plays the field so much! awesome tribute though, i can just close my eyes and listen to this all day
You know, watching him watch and hear himself play, I wonder if that flickering was him playing it all over again in his head.. Oh and yeah, this is one smart guy with a great talent, and I'm so glad we get to share it! =)
Never heard of John Mayer except w/Jennifer A. Now I am a fan, after hearing the performance and seeing this video of thoughtful insights into music in general, and Michael Jackson's place in history.
d 1st time i heard John Mayer singing No such thing" i love it so much i thought i would learn guitar just 2 play dat song, i became a musician n I think he's 1 of d greatest musicians of our time, i mostly like rock instead of pop but he can make u like pop 2, he should soon start filling stadiums on a big tour i hope
His performance was probably the most impressive, along with Stevie Wonder's. Human Nature is beautiful. Does anyone think that John Mayer kinda looks like he could be Johnny Depps baby brother? I didnt realise he was THAT handsome
Why me situation. I still wonder why he was chosen too by the Jackson family. And so truthful as he is to say that he has never met MJ, unlike when people suddenly pretend to know a famous dead one so well
I knew John Mayer cause of one of his songs, SAY and hes a wrestling fan like myself. But he played one of my songs in tribute to him and I cried during that. I still go and listen to it cause its just how I hear Human Nature now without Micheal....but I still listen to the track tho. Lol
I wonder what made Michael Jackson so universal? I find it hard to believe that it was alone because he made his break through back in the 80's. That's kinda what John means I think.
actually most of the times he the most strict critic of himself.. he said this multiple of times that while he is playing he always has a voice in his head saying 'nope nope',,
Song originally Written by the band TOTO : Jeff Porcaro, Steve Porcaro, Mike Porcaro, David Paich and Steve Lukather. Michael never thank them for that.
I came here for john, but ended up wondering why usher sings the crap he does sing when he can sing like that. I like what usher did. Obviously not as much as mayer though.
what a joke....aniston is not one of the greatest actresses of all time...nor does her work inspire millions...nor does her work have "anything to say"...i'm not bashing her she's a great actress and very pretty but that doesnt equate to greatness or substance...john mayer will go down as one of the greatest musicians of our time...not because i like the guy's work but because it is timeless and he's a phenom on guitar
im not really a big fan of john. frankly i kinda wish that it would come out that he was into violent sex or s/m or something...cz it gets so tiring wtchng horny chicks singing every word by heart. but obviously he s highly intelligent and that man can play guitar. so...i gv credit where its do... gd job.
why on earth he has 7 grammys? I don't think you can find a person outside of the States to know him for anything else but dating Jennifer Anniston.... either way hes got a hell of a publicist...I could find more reasons for Paris Hilton being famous than John Mayer.... And Usher actually touching the cascet when ppl REALLY close to him didnt! HIDEOUS!
