Man, I don't get why 'pop' songs aren't thought of as great songs. This is as vulnerable & honest as you can be in a melody . That's what a great song does - it moves you & makes you feel - This simple tune & performance is an accomplishment on its own. I'd love the keyboard warriors to have the balls to bare their soul's story of grief, remorse & regret meanwhile they're here bagging on Mayer for what's not finished yet. 🤯 Why does the critic need to make it better Why can't they just enjoy the message I'd love to see anyone stand in front of a bunch of strangers and sing their story that's heartbreaking & doing it all while keeping it together - note for note and word for word the value is lost comparing it to any finished works . To that guy standing up there bleeding his soul - you're an artist's artist thank you for your tries because without you so many would be left without words from the inside .
The intro sounds like Old Love by Clapton. But yeah, I think this could be a cool song. What I'd really like to hear though is that little thing he played in the back of a Land Rover last year.
@@viktorceder4985 Yeah, that what the video is called anyway. I meant I thought it would be cool to hear that like fully developed, with a band and all.

I think everybody can relate to this song It's a Wonderful song. I was with someone for 9 years and I never knew what happened honestly it was such a mess that I found out 20 years later when I finally got closer that it was his mother that broke us up because we'd split up for a little bit and every time I called his mother would say he's asleep he's not home he says he's fat and I couldn't figure it out I just didn't understand it. But she wasn't Orthodox Jew and looked at me as a shiksha I wasn't appropriate. Well with all my medical degrees I did all right none of her kids did so just goes to show you it doesn't matter age doesn't matter religion doesn't matter and sex doesn't matter none of it matters what matters is love and it was true love 9 years we held together and now my phone's going to die sorry but I can relate to this song very well he's dead by the way and I want to live forever I just wish you could have been with him he ended up marrying someone else and they killed me I couldn't understand it come to find out it was his mother Mommy Dearest
Aren't these the chords of an unreleased song back in the day? I remember it as the song Old Love (found it somewhere on youtube) 2009. The electric guitar uses like the same licks aswell as the same chords. Would love to hear this one on the electric for sure. Sounds great btw John ❤️
2023 Happy New Year Favor Idk how this works but if anyone can tell John Mayer this, please do... Please tell him the girl who saw him between a bathroom door & a kitchen this summer says hi all the way from from Chi-town suburbia. I didn't recognize who he was then (though I should've). And that location? (Yes & Thank you). But for me, despite the invasions, my mind dawned an answer on a dawned day and than I knew. kapowza! John Mayer! Why? Idk, we'll, maybe I do... Because it had to be. Thank you, Jenny M
first two chords that’s it. after that they’re different. g over the f gives a distinctly poppier vibe and it resolves to the c or sometimes the c inversion on the 5th fret.
Personally, i think is about Katy Perry since he has said publicly that one broke him. Also, she was his last formal relationship. His relationship w Jessica Simpson was very toxic. I don't think he misses her lol
I wonder why people who don't like a certain artist enjoy making hateful comments on those artists' videos. Why generate more hate in the world? If you don't like this, this video is simply not for you. Forget it and that's it
Why Anyone Has To Go (John Mayer) Why couldn’t God fill the world with a bunch of people and just leave it? instead of everybody grieving alone in their despair What is the purpose of this hurting? Why are the seasons always turning, tell me if love will always end for certain then why'd they put it there? Years gone by still can’t forget it tears will fall and drown you if you let it As long as I live I’m never gonna get it Why anyone has to go This girl I knew made me better we fall asleep and touch our feet together now I’m just trying to forget her to keep me moving on I should be happy that I knew her not the fact I now mean nothing to her it’s kind of crazy she’s a stranger and all her stuff is gone
thanks man! was looking for this comment. some corrections: seasons turning, tell me* love will always end* for certain not the fact I now mean nothing to her*
I absolutely loved his Born and Raised, Paradise Valley, the search for everything (kinda) era but it’s good to have the old sounding John back. This sounds like it could’ve been on Battle Studies
@@landocalrissian5180stealing 2 chords is not a big deal. Look at all the songs released to this date. There are hundreds that have even the same chords….
Everyone is saying that it kinda sounds to old love by Eric Clapton, but i just hear a little bit of it at the chorus w the chords progression but other than that, i think it sounds different
That first part is literally only one chord that's different. Old love is Am7-Dm7-Gsus4-G and this is Am-Dm-G-C. He uses a different melody to get from the Dm to the G, and the progression overall feels a bit more 'whole', while Old Love feels 'longing'. It's the same rythm and only one chord difference. It's still a great song, and it's not worse because someone says it sounds like Old Love. Because it just sounds like Old Love.
@@fransorsel2966 i was just giving my opinion with my not musical trained ear so I'm sorry if I got it wrong but it's still how it sounds to me. I feel kinda bad you lol at my comment with me not being a musician though
@@wanabiyu8380 Oh the 'lol' was not really the actual laughing what I meant. Sorry if you misunderstood that :). Also, no problem not being a musician, just saw your own pinned comment and felt I had to make clear why it sounds so similar to Old Love. With all that said, let's just enjoy the song and thanks for uploading this!
Simplicity in chord changes + complexity in lyrical content.... Really appreciate this songwriting philosophy he started since the Born and Raised album
Just gotta fangirl for a second & say that cocky lil hip shimmy still gets me every time, Johnny 💞 Also, I lost my Mom this year so this song felt like a personal lil hug. Thank you & I am so sorry for your loss of Bob 🙏 *writes this as if he will read it* 🤣
I 've been listening to John's sweet new tune on RU-vid loop! It has really born a ❤in my psyche that I am loving. 'Why anyone has to go' is a very touching concept to relate to. My heart continues to be broken along with this 'hurts like a John Mayer song' artist's. Truly A Creative Genius, Master, The Man and THE KING ❣💡🌟💎👑
The only thing that's from Old Love is the acoustic pocket. Clearly a different progression and melody. Flesh this out John. Go crazy...live horns. I hear a Str...errrrr Silver Sky wailing over the top.
John Mayer: Hey wanna hear a song nobody has EVER heard??? Crowd: YEAH!!! John Mayer: Plays Song... Crowd: Screams like idiots the whole time and doesn't even listen... What a time to be alive. LOL!
I wouldn't have put the date if i wasn't 100% sure. He performed in an event called Alice in Winterland. And yes, he definitely looks younger. I think is the short hair again
That has to be laid down, beautiful, and spoke to me... in my most humble opinion, not cuz anyone asked but anywaayysss: I think if you do end up recording this song; you should, at least do 1 version just like this: simple, clean & wonderful and I'll never understand why anyone has to go either... I've had a lot of shocking, yet not that shocking losses in my life over the past few years... not even including the one's we ALL eventually face: Grandma's, Grandpa's and Great Aunts and the like, I feel like when we are real young, "we" are all so; eager to grow up, that we tend to forget that everyone around us is growing older too... food for thought 🤔
