Other than John Milbank and Stanley Hauerwas, who are the other voices we hear in the room. The remark that "basically humanism is dead" - who said that? It sounds like something John would say, but I'm not sure, I wish they had video of this discussion.
I am very critical of John's view of Anglicanism and the Reformation. I agree more with Stanley's analysis, because John Calvin was not historically naive about the Early Church he was extremely rooted in the Latin Fathers. Calvin was largely misread by Puritans and Evangelicals, he believed in a good liturgy. Also England is simply a country who's Christianity is rooted in Papal authority, St Augustine of Canterbury was sent by Pope St Gregory the Great. That is why Chesterton became Catholic that is why Tolkien was a Catholic that is why Newman became Catholic and so on. Also many Catholics like Tolkien think that there is something more Calvinist than John Calvin in traditional Catholicism.
Nate Nobile I'm a Calvinist and a fan of Milbank and I can say he's not too consistent on the Calvin thing; when push comes to shove he will admit "alright Calvin was better than Luther" and he has respect for Jamie Smith (professor at Calvin College who wrote an intro to Milbank which Milbank wrote a preface on) and John Webster. Right now, my dream is to apply and study under Milbank so maybe, if it ever happens, I'll be able to push on him a bit and get him to shove over. :)
