The mosquitos were horrible near ponds or still water, especially at the end of the day. They mostly went away after dark and weren’t bad in the mornings. We only used headnets 3 times the whole 18 days, so they usually really weren’t bad. Many nights at higher elevation or more exposed/windy had no bugs at all.
We started August 24th and finished September 10th! Congrats on getting your permit, you're gonna have such an incredible time out there! We're hoping to do the PCT next year so maybe we'll see you in the Sierras!
