I love seeing these, finished designs are nice but this stuff right here, the sketches are just pure gold. Thank you Scott for taking your time to do these videos for us and thank you to the designers who show off their work.
Jason Cox We're working on it. It was a You Tube mobile linking crash and so we have moved all the app linked videos to a new server. The app updates should be done very soon with the new links. The links from the URL on page 206 will remain the same and are currently working fine.
my heart sinks all the way to the bottom of the ocean when i see art like this.. it kills me to compare my sketchbook to this. not even close to the level of detail and neatness. mother of lambs..
martin rhames alright but what is shown on this channel doesn't necessarily mean it is how everyone should do it however I do grant that it is one path towards success. It's fine to have high detailed work in a sketch book but I believe the priority of its purpose is to let loose and explore.
madman3891 sketchbooks are more about ideas and convey your concepts and its all about your thinking and interpretation of observing the real world. Some people see it as messy , or dont. Dont be hard on yourself
dunno if anyone cares but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times you can watch all of the latest series on instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my brother during the lockdown =)
I had no idea I would be randomly finding videos on the artists that worked on Hawken, I loved that game and I was fascinated with the mechs and world. cool.
wow those sketchs and designs are just beautiful! very inspirational and the things you touched base on with design was very helpful they're things artist may know but forget to keep in mind while draw and designing.
Amazing books man! One way I've found to keep spirals from falling apart is to stitch the seam with fishing line where the spiral teeth meet up. They're pretty bomb proof after that.
A great looking series of drawings... I really appreciate the quality of the work done with the brush pen at the end of the video, very bold confident marks. Feeling inspired, I think I'm gonna go draw now. Thanks for the inspiration!
Great sketchbook! Good to know that people still work with traditional mediums, I thought concept art had completely gone digital but just like you guys I love drawing with pencils and biros!
Thats the love of scott, thats why I Love his work, a lot of people I met these days do everything digitally and dont know how to paint traditionally and I hate using that slippery Wacom sometimes :) Pencils awesome.
My teachers always asked me why I draw so small. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels safe sketching small. I just don't know what to when I try to sketch large...
Great video, Scott! Since this review features mostly line work, I wonder if you've tried the (poorly-named) application, Manga Studio 5? It has some truly wonderful drawing tools that far out-perform any in Photoshop (IMO). And, since version 5, MS has shown itself to be a solid painting program, as well. And at $50 for the base program, it's a helluva deal. (The more expensive EX version differs mostly for the addition of page management features for those artists working up full comics or graphic novels.)
been waiting for an upload from ya mr.scott! Lovin this sketchbook series Edit: WUOH kekai kotaki. Looked him up and he does guild wars 2 concept arts! :D, I play the game, it's my favorite at the moment :D. Also i've played hawken too, pretty cool game.
Love how this is just artists talking about the technical aspects of sketching. Only artists doing the same kind of work know what the other was going through at that time and how they did that one drawing or the other. Need to get that water brush pen.
Scott, really great line-up of talent in the past few weeks, great sketchbook reviews! -Keep'em coming! I was curious, is there a part 2 yet to drop? You mentioned having some upload ills..
Wow, always love seeing sketchbooks. Thanks for posting Scott. I've always "doodled," but never had any training to draw. I've always felt the pull to draw, but I have always analyzed my way out of it before even putting pencil to paper. Can anyone recommend videos for an absolute beginner, that you can step through exercises with? Thank you
That's a tough order. But you should check out Sycra and Proko, both here on RU-vid. They might have some videos that could benefit you. If I find anything I'll let you know.
Love this videos, full of excellent material, by the way, i don't know if it's on the same ballpark as you guys but have you checked Kim Jung Gi's work? i believe Kim's technique is different but the end result is nothing short of amazing.
Hello Scott! I am not sure if you respond regularly to youtube comments. I have a question for you if you have to time to answer. I have been drawing almost everyday (give or take a few weeks or so) for the past 2 years. And I have seen fantastic results. I started attending school at CGMA and have made it pretty far through their foundation program. You talked about being able to "foresee" what you are going to draw. And I feel like I still can't do that. Every drawing I start is always a developed one. As in, I will just start putting pen to paper, and whatever becomes of it, I just go with it. What can I do to get to this point where I am able to foresee the drawings, like you are saying. Or at least how to have a better idea going into it. When I look at the paper, its hard for me to develop things onto it without just putting ink down first. I feel like my brain is so close to getting there, almost like striking a lighter, and it not fully igniting. What can I do to get it going? I have definitely hit a hole in my progress, I feel like I've been stuck in progression for about a month now. Thank you in advance! Totally understand if you end up not answering!
Man i wish i had your courage to continue drawing people on the street even if they look back at you , bcz me , when they discover what i was doing , i just look down in book and stay there until they are gone . LOOOL
Montezuma Xocoyotzin Lol I have the same fear but I have also found that most people are very supportive if I ask them first. I say "Hi, I'm an art student, would it be okay with you if I drew a sketch of you?" They have all been flattered except this one totally mean woman who got upset. But then who wants to draw mean people anyway.
Hello mr Robertson, you and mr Park are really good illustrators! What kind of art style is this, what is it called? Also what does "foundation" mean? thanks!
Hey Scott, has John published any of these sketches shown in these videos? (not the photoshop stuff).. I just picked up Darren Quach's sketchbook and found this video via your Pinterest boards. Terrific video, thank you!
Scott, I just can't see those shapes to make a mech look like a mech. I've been following your "how to draw" book and some videos, like Darren Quach, but I can't draw mechs at all. Perhaps it's because I haven't drawn enough cars and what not, but aside from that, been hitting quite a large wall with mechs and cyborgs and such...
+Nikesh Jaggan Try drawing a variety of heavy equipment like cranes, backhoes, dozers etc. from observation. This will give you the anatomy that's probably missing.
Hi Scott! Man, I received last week your How to draw book, and is really amazing stuff, is helping me a lot with my perspective skills, I'll keep recomending it to everyone. I have a question about Design, that maybe will be interesting for other people. Do you sometimes write lists of words in order to generate new ideas? I have seen profesional concept artists doing it, but I don't find much information about this topic. Do you have any suggestion? Thanks again.
Cool stuff, may I ask how you arranged the lighting for the video taping of this sketchbook? Did you set a spot light straight down on it? Or just natural ceiling lights? Or ... thank you. Great video btw. :)
Hey Scott, I am trying to replicate the technique used by John Park with the water brush and hi-tech C pen. I'm looking for a red one and what I'm finding is much more saturated then the lines John has in his sketchbook. Have I not found the correct pen? Or has he used a black pen on top of his sketches?
Scott, Can you expand on what you mean about "silhouettes" at 3:46. What part of the drawing is the silhouette? Why does sketching small enable you to see them easier? Thanks!
+S.S Moore 1. a two-dimensional representation of the outline of an object, as a cutout or configurational drawing, uniformly filled in with black. 2. the outline or general shape of something: the slim silhouette of a skyscraper. 3. a dark image outlined against a lighter background.
Thanks Scott Robertson. I really enjoy your videos - there is so much to learn here. I'm also looking forward to reading How To Draw, it just arrived in the mail, in the near future. Keep up the good work! S
Hello, I was wondering if someone would be able to tell me about the drawing at 20:00 of the guy in red drawn 3 times with the hat, I am very fascinated by the style of the drawing and the figure, character and costume that is worn by him and if someone would be able to tell me what kind of person he is or character it would relate to that I can search and look into so that I can draw people like that, thank you very much love the art very much but that one in particular is very interesting and to my taste
Is there a list, or something I could be directed too, about foundations? I'd like to really work on them, but places I've looked it all seems to differ.
