One day the world will understand just how extremely, amazingly good this man was. I don't want to get into any arguments, IMHO he was THE best!!

Man, he was so underrated. I've seen many genres---Bowie, Kiss, Lynard Skynard, Keith Urban, Bocelli, Rolling Stones, Pavarotti & many more. But didn't discover John until about 10 or 12 yrs ago, & so glad I did.

You know what, I think he's great too, but I also realize it's not all about how great your songs are. These days, you gotta be good looking, young, got the 'now' sound, etc.

You can't beat story telling music. I'm 36.and was listening to John prime since I was a kid. I heard more songs played around the camp fire before I heard the orinal. I thank the old guys at the campground for instilling a great taste of music in me.A good song is a good song.

John basically let the band shine thru all these songs. He just strummed the acoustic guitar and let the band take over. Not many artists would do that. He could write songs for any type of music

I have played guitar with both of the guys in this band at Perry Street tavern in Medora Indiana. Larry was friends with the lead singer in our band and Dave was well known and from the same town as me. Both great talents and Larry loved John Prine so playing in his band was a dream come true. Larry was the one that got the gig for him and Dave.

This was recorded a only a few years after I was first introduced to his music, probably a year after The Missing Years came out. We had a very good performer here who was a huge John Prine fan, played dozens and dozens of his songs at a high level. He introduced countless people to Prine’s music. I love his entire catalogue, but this is the first album of his that came out when I was just out of college and like the Missing Years, still sounds fresh today. That band was stellar and there’s at least another recording on RU-vid from this era, but in more of an expanded format - an entire concert, no video but good sound quality, tremendous performance. Thank you John Prine, you are much missed.

Some fantastic stuff by Prine; I'll never grow tired of Lake Marie. But that's a helluva backing band. Love the Strat players tasty licks, and the SG guys tone as well as playing. And the drummer is the perfect fill for these songs. Reminds me a bit of Jim Keltner.

God, I miss John and his dry humor and laid back personality (not to mention his songwriting & vocals). As much as I like Prine playing acoustic & solo, it's good to hear him with backing musicians occasionally. There's a great vid on YT with John playing an episode on the old PBS series "Sessions on W. 54th St.". John had an awesome electric guitarist and a stand-up bass playing with him. Iris Demint even makes an appearance for a few of their duets also! Not to be missed!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NWOoiMtevdY.html

I love John’s singing voice here. Sometimes it seemed he went so far out of his way to sound twangy and not in a good way. His songs are always wonderful and amazing, but sometimes that twangy was too much.
