Yes, John had the answer to the interviewer's question even before the question was completed. Properly termed UNDERSTANDING. This was also properly noted in researchers/writers about Jim Morrison and his extraordinary intellect. Not-so-much that he (Jim) was always the smartest kid in class/school, but that he UNDERSTOOD the entire subject-matter. No need for explanations or elaboration. An essential element in all poets.

George, this was a phenominal interview. John Prine is the master. His music is simplistic but his lyrics are so awe inspiring that the total package makes you stop and think about what you just heard and realize it has changed you in a good way, Probably the best song ever written is by John Prine "Hello In There".

I just plain old enjoyed seeing a more revealing, humorous and interesting side of John. Further into the interview, it hit me - as much as I'm loving this, John's gone and I can't change that - which brought me from happy to sad way too quickly. Death is the worst part of life. Phooey!

Stromboulopoulos: "71, that's not old." The hell it ain't. I'm 66, and that's getting there. Great interview. George has Prine fired up because he's an enthusiastic fan. Lovely album. Sorry John died yesterday, but now he's in Paradise, which is a lot better than old torn-down Paradise, Kentucky. I can't wait to meet him in heaven. I'm from the western suburbs of Chicago myself and knew my fair share of sons of transplanted hillbilly factory workers, like Prine's father was. We Yankees were hard on those kids at school, which probably made him more introspective, and look what came of that. God bless John Prine.

Excellent interview-lead, listen, contemplate the answers and don't talk over your guest. John Prine, like a few others, is a national treasure. He has no frosting on his cake. It's all cake. For years I resisted listening to his new music for fear of letting go of the last. But my fears were unfounded. You can't replace or let go of a beautiful memory emblazoned inside your heart. You can't. Some people say that he is a terrible singer and a terrible picker. Well I say that terrible never felt so good. Never had the chance to catch John, Steve Goodman or Bonnie Kollock at The Earl in Chicago in the old days. I did get to catch Johnathan (Johnny) Round and Jim Post - for those who remember. Keep on pickin', John. Don't ever let the muse go!

What a great interview! I love that there were no commercials interrupting the flow. I could have listened for hours. I’ve been a fan since I bought that first album Prine mentioned where he was standing by a bale of straw on the cover of a vinyl LP I picked up at an Army PX in Georgia in the 70s. His connection with Kris Kristofferson came up during the interview when Prine mentioned he was ‘discovered’ when Steve Goodman dragged KK across Chicago to hear his buddy John Prine late one night at the Earle of Old Town after they had all finished their evening shows. I had been a fan of KK since I bought HIS first album a few years earlier, so I think I must have been attracted by that same ability to craft lyrics and sing them that KK observed during that impromptu audition.

Adding a comment because this is one of the best things I've ever seen on youtube. John Prine was a wonderful songwriter and there's not enough of him on the internet. Come on home, John.

I love that George knows his stuff. It's obvious he loves John and asks intelligent questions. Still sad, but this interview makes things a bit bette right now.

bad pop music makes bad cars. the humor of john prine just ties everything together, even the tragic. there's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes. it is so heartbreakingly sad but yet the image is cartoonishly funny.

hey strombo thanks for reaching out and bringing John to Ontario...and thanks for the one on one interview...it`s great to hear John`s conversation...we`re able to learn his history his life and what he`s all about...it`s too bad Neil and Bob are so private...because John opens up and is not shy about it he gains fans and people come to love him etc etc....truly a great songwriter and one super duper easy goin guy....what a shame he`s gone cause i think his writing was movin on to different heights...eg I Remember Everything.....Strombo you said it right on....if you like john prine you really really like john prine....
