I loved that alien map in multiplayer where everyone had barnacles and could web-swing around the map with proto-grappling hooks... Man, FPS games got stale fast....
"Back in Black Mesa, I could shoot down a gunship, I could blow up a tank, I was in charge of million dollar experimental weapons, back here I can't even get the Tau Cannon off of my fucking car!"
I know a lot of the technical effects in this are superb but my favourite detail is still the crossbow bolt he draws on his bow before he shoots the combine soldier into the billboard.
I think this is a case where there are so many tools available for the game/engine (with this video having leveraged Garry's Mod and Source Film Maker, per the description) that it allows a much deeper level of integration than most games normally do. All the assets being exportable to Blender probably helps. Of course, all that only makes it possible, because leveraging it all also means a ton more effort to pull something this good off.
@@vaevictis_ what are you talking about? lmao everyone says their thing is underrated or slept on even when it is a intergenerational classic like first blood. idiot
First Blood: Perhaps American imperialism exacts a horrifying toll on our soldiers, a burden that they carry to the end of their days as broken men. Every other Rambo Movie: ....And that's a GOOD thing! U! S! A! U! S! A! U! S! A!
The early 2000s scifi plus the 1980s machismo gives this such a unique effect. This type of mashup is the best, where it isn't just "out-of-place ironic character," but instead the 2 sources actually complement each other really well! Makes you think about the great stories people could tell by creating such a sincere love letter to such different inspirations.
It's the little things that bring back Half Life 2 - the sound of the Combine helicopter's bullets (?) ricocheting off the airboat, the twitchy steering on the dune buggy - _those_ are the touches that told me John Rambo was truly in the world of Half Life.
This is actuallu ingenious given that the slow escalation of Half-Life 2!directly mirrors the way First Blood starts. The fact thatit also lines up with the hover-craft and other details is amazing.
At the time, Rambo taught me the most important lesson - *never mess with a war veteran who just wanted to eat.* Too bad that Dr. Breen and alliance didn't understand this...
