It was an honour to play with John no matter how under-rehearsed! I do regret leaving out verse three of "Grapes Of Life" in my excitement - sorry Alan! This is the verse; He just couldn't reach him - Teachers couldn't teach him - love - Thats what he was in need of - Not the kind tht makes a man and wife - But the vine that bears the grapes of life.
a woman can pour her entire chalice of love into a man and he just takes and takes while he slowly resents her care. history does not credit the unfuckable (read: intelligent) women in the world so unless that changes your song is blasphemy and your violent daughters will turn against the dying, fat athiest so-called father...
Love when Jones is singing and Renbourn is playing lead. I wasn't aware Renbourn was such an outstanding lead player, more melodic and structured than his rhythm playing imo.
THANK YOU for posting this! Way back in ~1981, I once skipped taking the GRE tests (that I had already paid for) in order to hear John Renbourn (with Stefan Grossman and Ralph McTell) playing in UCLA's Royce Hall. I got first-row balcony tickets for my sister and her boyfriend. Absolutely worth it; now wonder if a recording of it might be dug up via UCLA archives? It was also a LONG concert: for the first half, they each did a half-hour solo set. The second half was 3 half-hour duo sets (all possible combinations.) The encore was all three of them doing "Candyman." AWESOME CONCERT!
Recorded at Ullapool Guitar Festival )Oct. 7-9, 2011). This is basically a Wizz Jones set with John Renbourn sitting in on accompaniment and a few solos of his own.
