JL, your informative clips are always educational, hysterical and entertaining! I learn more in 6 minutes from you, than a 58 min.episode of Gardener's World. You are the Monty Don of Ireland. Next time I'm in Dublin, I need to visit your incredible nursery/gardens/cafe... TY. Erin

You have a lovely little companion there. My border terrier inspects everything I do in the garden. He loves eating zinnias, all cucurbit & gourd foliage, borage, baby carrots, kale and even broadbean pods that I discard. 🤣

Hello, John! I recently found your channel and after watching one or two episodes, I subscribed. What I really enjoyed about this presentation is that foliage is so very important. Combing color, texture & shape make a garden that has not begun to bloom still enthralling IMHO. I am trying very hard to juxtapose these elements in my own garden...examples: large leafed yellow-green against ferny black, fuzzy gray against smooth purple. I don't even want to get into flowering times, color and shape of the bloom! By the way, Joe Pye Weed grows wild here but it is enormous. I believe there is a cultivar that is much smaller like the plant you have.. Bringing wild flowers into the garden can be devastating. Once a wild plant encounters amended soil rich in nutrients, the plants that have thrived on subsistence go absolutely crazy and then the gardener has a monster problem with which to deal! May I make a suggestion? Why don't you start a tutorial program for visiting gardeners. They pay to come to your center, learn, work(free) and do a hands on apprenticeship. I think it would be smashing and even though I detest flying, I would come. Thank you, thank you, and again thank you! I think you are marvelous! Regards and all the best. Please stay safe, Maria

Pink Peony Thanks for your kind comments. By the way, ‘Baby Joe’ is the name of a shorter Joe Pye weed cultivar. I’ll love to do tutorials but with a busy garden centre as well as a garden to look after it would be hard to find the time.

Broken Arrow Nursery in Connecticut USA has a few times a year when people can sign up to come and pull weeds, for a few hours, then they take us around to look at plants. They let everybody pick one perennial and we always end up buying a ton of other amazing things. Lotsa fun.

Thank you for the tour. Your garden looks beautiful even with all the green. We've had a cool and wet May and June so far in Michigan.

It is very interesting to see the prairie garden at the pre-flowering stage. I am looking forward to seeing it all flower. It would be great (if you have time) if you could show another pre-flowering video, when everything is in bud or when just a few of these plants are flowering. Do you add potash or other fertilisers to promote flowering? Do you water this garden and if so, how often?

Hi, I do not think he adds anything. He has rich clay soil, so I guess all the plants need to be able to take that. And he doesn't water except when transplanting. I'd love to see another video when things are in bud or maybe just barely opening too......

@@nspector Hi and thanks for this info. That's impressive to get abundant flowering with only very limited additions. I hope we get to see that additional video! Cheers.

I don't see the Persicaria used in American gardens. It seems to be a wonderful plant.

Some of these plants are sold here as shade plants and I was afraid to try them in sun. I used to live in the woods, and grew to love foliage plants that I can’t have here, so I love your in the preflower season.

There are small lakes of water, punctuating the foliage landscape ..... on explanation they are waves of short fine miscanthus ! ( I think ) ....Not yet in flower, the prairie garden is a forest with layers of lush bushes and lakes in front .
