John Bysiewicz was taking a 30-mile afternoon bike ride on what he thought was a quiet back road when he was struck by a car. The impact threw him into a ditch eight feet off the road, shattering his ceramic racing bike into hundreds of pieces. The only thing left lying on the road was a small bike pack from under the seat. The driver who struck John didn't stop and eventually called 911 but didn't tell the authorities where the accident occurred. Thankfully, not long after the accident, another driver noticed the bike bag and decided to check it out - he found John lying in the ditch with life-threatening injuries. A part of John's left leg had to be amputated, and he had other serious injuries. He came to Gaylord for both his inpatient and outpatient rehab and is now fully back at work and exercising.
