For those too young, some context. That 88 Celts team the Pistons beat was a complete weak shadow of what they were in the early 80s when Bird won MVP 3 straight years in a row; let that sync in, on top of winning multiple NBA championships. By 87/88 both McHale and Parrish had major injuries and Bird's back was complete toast from the injury he sustained in 85/86 time frame while digging/installing a new driveway at his mom's house.
