If the Knicks won game 6 & the championship...Starks probably gets MVP. Instead, game 7 & that abysmal 2-18 is all he was remembered for in that series. What a sin cause that guy was all heart.

Game 6 and Game 7 of the 1994 Finals perfectly sums up John Starks' career, when he was hot, he was one of the best in the game, when he was cold, he was one of the worst. That said I loved Starks because of the passion he brought to the game and he was a perfect fit in Pat Riley's system which required high energy play from the guards and physical play from the forwards. He basically played Byron Scott's role when Riley was with the Lakers. In my opinion the only missing link in all of the Riley led Knicks was a top flight point guard. Guys like Harper, Rivers, Jackson were all good players but they weren't great. If Riley had his "Magic" in New York I have no doubt the Knicks would have won atleast one title under him.

That's exactly why I loved starks myself. He also was one the best defenders in his time. He guarded the other teams best player most of the time. Forever had matchups against Jordan, reggie Miller, john Stockton, etc. Loved the way he played the game

That block by Olajuwon completely shattered his confidence
@kenalier

@@goldenstatewarriors4011 He was never the same after that. The 93-94 season was the peak of his career and making the All-Star team but after that Finals, his career slowly dropped off and he was never an All-Star caliber player again, even though he did win a Sixth Man of the year award later on.

Agreed, especially about the PG. Harper I’d say played the best of the group, especially in the playoffs but none were elite that could carry you in a playoff series.

What pisses me off is that people only talk about the 2 for 18. They never talk about this game. Had Hakeem not block the shot then it would've gone in and Starks would've been finals MVP.

he was the best shooting guard in knicks history. but he always had ups and downs in his career

No - Allan houston was the best 2 in NYK history.

Ewing was to blame for the series loss. As the go-to guy, he only averaged 18 some points for the series

Ewing's fault for not properly sealing off Olajuwon with that pick on the last play that enabled him to recover his balance and tip block Starks's shot.

That's why he would never great like Reggie Miller or Ray Allen, way too inconsistent

I recall Miller in particular having single digit scoring games himself in the playoffs.

@@hualien0403 starks is a star role player, comparing him to top 10 guards of all time says something about how hard starks worked.. he had no business being there in the first place.

Starks needed to throw it over to Ewing - when Olajuwon left him to block Starks. Would have forced OT.
