In the US we have more college grads than a 30 yrs ago, and far fewer who can read a simple line of music. Our churches have given up their music traditions, to follow the pop culture, and its garage band genre. Schools, be they public or self selecting private, offer music primarily as a recreation activity, and then rarely ever expect the students to learn to read music or develop it to the fullest potential. And lastly those institutions which once had great or modest boy choirs have abandoned them as they are uncomfortable with the fact that boys posses a gift of a high clear toned voice. The sports agenda dominates, almost as though adults want the boys to loose that vocal quality as early as possible.
