If back then people thought DD were the bad example of everything, what would those same people think today in 2020 of some of the "singers/bands" that look more like convicted felons, drug lords and kingpins of the mafia cartel than "artists". DD were good talented kids- I never saw them being cocky, bratty or "too good for the fans" in any interview or tv show appearance . They always came across as nice, decent, good mannered, very articulate and well spoken young adults for their age. They don't make them like that anymore...but we still have DD, 40 years and still strong. And yes, John was HOT AF, and still is a very good looking 60 year old man- a true gentleman. Keep smiling, Johnny Angel.
i love this comment so much. I'm a new fan of Duran Duran, but my mom was a huge fan of them in the 80s. she told me everything about them and I really like them, not just because they're good looking, but because they seem really nice and I love hearing them talking about important topics , especially john, I'm in love with his voice and how hes always educated and never disrespectful, not like a lot of these new artists. they really put their hearts in what they do. I hope some day the people who hated on them will realize how good they were and still are, how nice and how amazingly talented they are and how important they've been in the 80s
25 years later and we still remember and still love Duran Duran. I am SO happy they are still doing it all for us. And John, you ARE a talented musician!
I didn’t know about the early wall between John and Simon until I saw this interview. I guess Duran Duran is having the last laugh since they’ve been together for 40 years, they put out a new album, and they’re on their way to the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame. I’ve had a hand in marketing and I looked back and I think Teenyboppers who are maligned by the press where the ones that infused all the cash into the Duran Duran train. And guess what, Teenyboppers grow up. Everybody missed the fact that these guys were a solid band, they wrote great songs with catchy choruses and great lyrics, and that they were just pure fun. Not one interviewer back in those days had the prescience to see the possibilities. Duran Duran was not a manufactured record label band. They were the real deal. Not many have survived the 40 year journey. Maybe the Rolling Stones. Thank you for posting this interview.
I fell for him at 13... I'm 36 now and my husband still gets jealous over him! HAHAHAH! :) have been going to concerts in the passed 5 years and even whilst pregnant! I also appear in the live tour DVD! yey! What can I say.... first love never dies!
I cringed when the interviewer said he was at his peak, even before I saw him react. I can't imagine saying that to someone, especially someone so young, since you're saying that it's all downhill from there. Bleah! And the tight closeup, the lighting and his slow, quiet responses make him seem extra young and kind of vulnerable. That and yes, he looks high. I never would have noticed any of this as a 17 year old in 1984. Interesting to see this video now.
I never really noticed about the drugs until after he admitted even having a problem in the mid-90. Looking back at a few old interview is it seems kind of obvious now that there was an issue. 😔
I remember the Duran Duran whirlwind....the histaria the music the no. one band in the world being in Toronto when the Reflex video footage shot at Maple Leaf Gardens nearly getting hit by the Duran Duran limos behind MLG on my way home that night seeing the reflex costumes coming out of the trunk (the black and white jacket and the red jacket) worn by Simon and Andy....crazy memories..LOL!!!
If the interviewer was honest, he would day say: I'm so jealous of your looks and fame, I hope you don't mind me asking you 20 cringe-worthy questions.
John Taylor is so handsome just looking at him from the old days. He's got a beauty mark on the left side of his neck just like me. We could be "beauty mark on the left side of the neck" twins. I wonder if it was airbrushed.
La verdad es que si es triste, pero lo que cuenta es que ahora está sobrio. No hay nada mejor que saber que logró salir de sus malos hábitos. Otra razón para quererlo, no?
pist and totaly weeded with some coke, nederwiedewiet.thanks john i stil like duran even after 30 years(this month 30 years ago planet earth was released)ALL YOU NEED IS NOW
Oh you're so mean to this guy, don't you think🤣 he was asked about "glamour and girls" as their IMAGE as a BAND. I mean all those videos like Rio, GOF..he was talking about the way they were perceived by music press and all that. He thought that was a mistake because they weren't seen as a much serious band at the time. But honestly, they never left that image...Lol. Even in their 40s they filmed music videos like "Falling down" with models who were probably about 18/19 year olds. So that was the way i got his answer, i don't know really how did you understand it that way🤷♀️ and btw, about your other comment on this video, you're watching the MOST attractive man on Earth and you say you're not even that attractive'. Like what? Okay, he doesn't have to be everyone's taste. But to say he isn't attractive at all, i don't know...
