"When music is your whole life, and suddenly life gets interrupted…."
In lost and rare archival music videos, photos, and very personal and candid lock-down interviews, the film finds 80s rock icon John Waite reflecting back on his 5-decade career.
From pioneer rock-video band The Babys in the 1970s to his breakthrough as a solo artist in the early days of MTV to touring with an actual Beatle, John recounts his struggles inside the commercialized world of the music business and his independent pursuits as a self-powered solo, live music artist.
For the past 30 years, John's "Do It Yourself" touring and live performances around the world have been his way to survive in life both financially and as he comes to terms with it in the film ... emotionally...

Around 1976 or 1977 I stood in front of The Babys at the Whiskey-a-go-go and from that day forward I've bought every album he's put out and I was never disappointed once, rock on John!!!

I was a huge BABYS fan back in the late 70s. Saw them open for JOURNEY, and quite honestly, they were BETTER than the headliners! It’s sad at what you learn in a documentary. Rewind to 1980. You stand before Rock Icons belting it out onstage, assuming they don’t have a care in the world. Fast forward to 2022 to learn they were heavily, HEAVILY in debt. Such an amazingly sobering documentary. BRAVO, JOHN!!

I've been a fan since '83. Like most people, Missing You, got me hooked. But unlike the others, I never stopped listening or following him. And finally! I finally saw John perform last night here in Englewood, NJ. He was phenomenal. Pure class. He's such a great singer & front man. His voice is amazing & he can still belt it out to hit those high notes. Thank you, John.... for everything.

One of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard in my life, and I've been a huge fan of him since the 80s, but unfortunately he's so underrated rock singer, and what really breaks my heart about his lack of recognition is that we saw many others "so called artists" were recognized by the Grammys and inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of fame, however John Waite still didn't, this life couldn't be more unfair

Heard John on radio lancashire this week .genuine gentleman.as a former pupil of greaves school .I remember him in school he's 3 years older than me and I can see a picture that he made of a knight holding a sword .on glass .it was aced at the top of the stairs for all to admire .it's true if you weren't into sport or a tough nut you struggled at greaves .school and John probably did struggle .any way you flourished in the best way and confounded all the doubters John. Thank you for your fabulous music .a real lancashire talent

The first four solo albums were also absolutely bloody marvelous too ! Some of his later stuff for me hasn't always floated my boat but tracks like I-95 - Godhead & Masterpiece of loneliness are as good as it gets .

Of the thousands of shows I've seen over 50 years, John's show at London's iconic Marquee club in August 1986 rates as one of the most electrifying gigs I've ever seen. For the first time in its history, the bar in the club was empty and everyone was watching the band! I've been a fan since The Babys and long may the Lancashire lad write and perform. No-one does it like JW, but I wish he'd play the UK more often!

Lyrics that can pick you up and break your heart at the same time.. John Waite is a LEGEND.. I simply cannot wait to see this! Not many people get the chance to be part of a band that has the potential to become globally successful. John Waite had that chance TWICE (first time with The Baby and the second time with Bad English). But obviously he screwed up both situations. Now how do you do THAT ???
@denise2648
@denise2648 Год назад
He stayed true to himself as an artist. Believe it or not, it's not ALWAYS about the fame. Some musicians are genuine and care about their work...they don't get caught up in th e manufacturing machine.
@MrPercussionPete
@MrPercussionPete Год назад
@@denise2648 I get your point. It's just that somehow it comes across as a little ungrateful. As a musician myself I know how hard it is to find a collective of friends / collegues who all want the same thing, which is create beautiful music and share that with the world. If you happen to be that lucky guy who finds himself in such a rare situation, you should regard yourself as very fortunate and privileged. Who do you think you are to just throw that away, like it's worthless ? And not just once, but twice. To me, that's not really appreciating what you have, what you were given. I think, in the end it seems like an act of self destructive behavior.
