wayne carried a lot of power in his crosses. he was a rangy raw boned very strong athlete as a youth. then in his late 20's he filled out more. people forget he was recruited to play lineman at usc, same team that won natl championship. he played some until he wrecked his shoulder.... think about that for a sec., you wouldve had to have been a very good athlete & old school strong back then to play. he was rawbone 220's in youth & then added another 15lbs. his punches would hurt a lot.
More than the punches from many martial artists. Seriously, they need to get better at training thenselves or else they'll be fighting like GTA 5 characters.
It really illustrates how many times The Duke sucker punched his opponents. Then again, you string together scenes from your movies and the patterns (of the fight coordinators) start to show. It really was the golden age of fight scenes.
Bill Anthony Theirs actually more than a few of his westerns that oddly didn’t contain a fist fight. Like The Searchers, True Grit, Rooster Cogburn, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, The Train Robbers and Cahill: U.S. Marshall.
@@linkskywalker5417 check out the fight scene in Carson City 1952 people say red dead redemption Fights look exactly like the fight scene in that film and looks like the fights in this video
You know those punching sounds are not what real punches sounds like. I have seen bar fights and heard how they sound for real. The closes that I have heard for punching sounds is the fight scene from The Big Country, between Gregory Peck and Charleston Heston.
@@patricksaxon3983 yeah, i think that's what he meant. the Foley made the sounds louder in post production during later movies. Seeing as how almost all of those punches didn't connect with anything all of the the sounds are fake. I only say "almost" because accidents happen.
full of shit he may have been though i and most of the millions who loved his films would disagree what aggelos says is undeniable fact.only star to feature in the top ten movie stars over 20 times most bankable star in hollywood had a studio built round him republic and forty years after his death one of the ten most recognised film stars in the world his movies still sell on tv and dvd no other star of the golden era matched his longevity fame and box office clout.also no other movie star im aware of had a poem written about him by a major poet he did robert service wrote john wayne v randolph scott after seeing the spoilers.oh and an airport named after him can even samuel l jackson boast that.
These hits he's landing would fuckin cave your head in lol but these fight scenes are way better than shit today where its all close ups , I hate the way fights are filmed these days
Every great John Wayne movie had to have a bar fight scene. Even the last gunfight scene he ever filmed, less than a year before he died, was in a bar.
I though this was all from the same movie ;0) Superb!! The accuracy to hit the jaw/chin EVERY punch ;0) Made a few GIFS from this video as no John Wayne fist fight GIFS out there .. until now. Be on FB & twitter in a few hours
there's a story that Ward Bond challenged Wayne see if you can knock me down, he stood in a doorway, Wayne said ok and then Bond closed the door. John Wayne threw a punch and it went throw the door and hit Ward Bond knocking him off his feet.
The Duke himself stated that he did more fight scenes than any other Hollywood star. This happens to be true to this day when counting all the movies he did. John Wayne's best cinematic fight scenes were with Randolph Scott: THE SPOILERS 1942 and second to it, PITTSBURGH 1942. The Duke got his nose broken by Randolph Scott during the fight sequence in The Spoilers when Scott mistimed a punch. Wayne made a nod to this incident years later in THE COMANCHEROS 1961 via screenwriter J. E. Grant. The Duke stated that his boyhood idol was Jack Dempsey...And that he copied the Manassa Mauler's punching style for his onscreen fight scenes.
What's the name of the film at 1:22 where they're fighting in a bed? Pretty sure that's the origin of a move in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu called the "John Wayne Sweep"
Well, let's not get carried away here, or think of these movie scenes as inspiration the next time somebody bumps into you in a bar or someplace. It's actually all too easy (and likely) to break half the bones in your hand by punching another guy in the jaw. It's also very easy for your jaw to break from just one full out punch (not to mention what could happen to your teeth). I've had both a broken hand and a broken jaw (neither from fighting, I'm happy to say), and even after 25 years, I'm still living with physical discomfort and a certain amount of disfigurement. Life sure as hell ain't like the movies, so please, don't ever intentionally try to prove that it is, okay? Just some friendly advice.
I'm thinking of having this every morning instead of coffee. Im looking for a clip where John takes a dude, picks him up and throws him into a parked horse. I cant find it anywhere.
@1:23 that was really nice of that guy to make sure that guy had a comfy spot to lay on like a hay bed before he punched him, if only I could have that the times I got popped in the face 😊
