I cannot get through the original without weeping. It's haunting indeed - I would call that the paradigm of understatement. I am old enough to remember, and I cannot imagine how any artist could capture such an event, and the underlying unanswerable questions - in a song like this. But that, of course is the genius of Sufjan Stevens. You have done a wonderful and moving job with this. Thank you - you are lovely. Although I've seen this video loads of times it's just struck me that the snowman is really appropriate here, a jolly disguise like this would have suited the murderer as well as that of a clown. Sends a shiver down my spine every time I listen to it.
