Few need an introduction to Hollywood icon John Wayne. "The Duke" was one of the biggest stars of the 20th century. His American and masculine image became his trademark, as was his skill with a shooting iron. Mementos of the beloved actor are highly prized collectibles.
This revolver was wielded by John Wayne onscreen in such films as Rooster Cogburn, The Cowboys, and his Academy Award winning role in True Grit. He can even be seen wearing it and the accompanying holster rig on the January 28, 1972 cover of Life Magazine.
Time to see what this silver screen smokewagon can do at the world's #1 auction house. "Fill your hands, you son of a bitch!"

@@marksprague1280 yeah but John Wayne was an actor...... and as far as reputations go there were a lot of lawmen whose reputations were probably inflated above what was truth. that's the way they wrote back in the day. And the Colt's - 2 I was familiar with - One smooth bore than had so much holster wear - the sides of the barrel were worn down. There are "several" guns he owned, a few of them had the same type grips screwed on, after he carved on them, and soaked them for a week in a pot of tea. But only (this) one had started out as a bisley. Plus, museums have been known to sell cars, books, paintings, aircraft, coins, and, yes, famous guns

Congratulations to the winner of this auction. He will now proudly own a true piece of movie history, originally used by John Wayne in his Academy Award performance in “True Grit”. Lucky guy.

The Duke would be shaking his head since that is more money than he got paid for most of the movies he stared in. Happy to see he is still appreciated.

I loved John Wayne too...but not 450,000 dollars worth. I could buy a lot of motorcycle a for that.
