@solokom

I think it is even to high. It has major flaws in character build, plot and even actions scenes. e.g. the scene in the subway, the silencer shooting: just ridiculous, I had to lough at this point and that is not a good thing in a movie which takes itself so serious. *spoiler*: and now everyone in the whole city is an assassin? He walks around covered in blood and nobody notices? this movie is so over the top. I would give it a B- or C+ it wasn`t nearly as good as the first one.

The emotional reason for Wick is great in this movie as well it’s just different. The anxiety of Wick being “damned if he do damned if he don’t so what the heck is he going to do?? How will he overcome??” kept me completely engaged in the story.

I don't agree with your point about realism. In my opinion, the whole film was absurd, not just the last scene. But what really made it great is that it knew that it was absurd, it didn't shy away from it. Instead, it pushed it all the way through, which made the movie a masterpiece.

Chris, you came up with the solid points @5.40, nobody flying from the helicopter, nobody jumping from the skyscraper rooftop, no superhero stunts, just hand to hand combat and gun-fu and you can make a fantastic action film based on that. Good point, man, good point.
@fendergibs9098
@fendergibs9098 7 лет назад
Pretty much spot on review, the production work of John wick movies is far superior to any recent action movies, including most Hollywood blockbuster CGI laden crap. Which is neither dramatic or visually appearing , resembling more video game then anything in reality. Especially the later fast and furious movies, oversaturated with CGI making real stunt work a thing of the past and the drama nonexistent. Tremendous camera work again and cinematography showing that true fight scenes with actors that know how to fight does not require a shaky jiggly camera with quick edits and upfront shots confusing visuals that many Hollywood director's rely on for cheap shortcuts and fake action. Although Lawrence Fishburn is an excellent actor, his part in the movie was rather distracting obviously overlapping with the matrix connection with past between these actors,it was an unnecessary intrusion into the John Wick world. His lines were awful and really didn't add anything to the story. One of the best equals made in recent time and a great ending looking forward to John Wick 3

The only real laugh I had in this movie is one I have with nearly every modern movie: Candles. How many freakin' candles do the catacombs have? THey must employ a staff JUST to set and light candles. How'd you like that on a resume? "So, it says here under skill set you are a....candle lighter?" "Yes" "That is your whole job description?" "Well...I also had to REPLACE candles that had burnt out and throw them away. Then light them." "Uh-huh" "No, really." "Full time?" "You have NO...idea..."

I actually found John Wicks character more interesting in this movie than the first because it really sells that this is a guy who's had a glimpse of a normal peaceful happy life but is drawn back into a world of violence and death that he doesn't really want to be a part of anymore, but at the same time it almost feels like he's kind of addicted to it and would be an empty shell without it. I feel more sorry for him in this movie than the last because this character conflict isn't resolved by just shooting someone in the face

If Keannu Reeves, Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen, Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie, Tony Jaa, and Jason Statham all got together to perform at least a majority of their own stunts for *John Wick 3* (the basic crux of the plot: A new villainess kills John's ex-lover and offers a $1 billion reward to anyone that can bring her his head), I may actually faint from amazement. Imagine these actors, each an assassin with different skills competing for the prize, and Wick having to survive them all?

Although I wouldn't consider Kaeanu as a great actor, his hard work with Taran Butler really shines in Chapter 2. I agree, motivation wasn't as strong as JW1 but it was there and believable, 8/10 for JW2. It is also why I want them to think carefully about Chapter 3, it absolutely has potential to be awesome but there is only so far the franchise can get if he is reluctant and wants out. But the initial motivation was more raw and clear cut; vengeance, for a crime the audience witnessed, against the pure innocence of a puppy and a man who wants to live quietly.

I agree with the emotional motivation, it wasn't on the same level this time round because he was forced but I feel like the motivational aspect found its ground with him hunting the Italian guy for forcing him to leave the life he made and to kill like he once did. But the realism didn't get to me, I stayed in the world of the movie the whole time and I just thought those scenes at the end were awesome. I would give John Wick an A- where I gave John Wick 1 and A+.

They should make some cool cameos in John Wick: Chapter 3, like Tom Cruise's character of Vincent from Collateral. Just that they pass each other and have a shootout or mutually agree not to kill each other or something like that. Or Bruce Willis's character from The Jackal. They should also make Charlize Theron's character from Atomic Blonde (which is directed by David Leitch who co-directed the first John Wick film with Chad Stahelski) someone on the High Table

I went to see this movie and left extremely disappointed. it changed so much from the first movie. The character motivation is weaker than the first time (that was to be expected) but it is also extremely cartoony. To raise the stakes they doubled the amount of bad guys so to justify John's survival they make the bad guy's aim worst than a drunk storm trooper and John's suit literally bullet proof. And the fights go unnecessarily forever, I couldn't believe I was actually getting bored in the middle of an action sequence!
@UnbelievabIeMontages
@UnbelievabIeMontages 7 лет назад
Disagree, the bad guys aim is actually better in the second. There was only one scene in John Wick that he got shot. He got shot more than 5 times in John Wick 2. The action scenes are boring because it was too shaky and less stylized compared to The Raid films, which actually make handheld effective.
@cristiangarcia1260
@cristiangarcia1260 7 лет назад
He had to get shot more than in the first one, there were more bad guys. But in this one they missed more and more clear shots and the bullet proof suit made those shots less significant plus in the first one that one shot was important, he had to see a doctor and dealt with the wound along the movie. That realism (as little as it is) made the first movie believable. This movie is closer to Scott Pilgrim than to John wick 1 haha. And I loved Scott Pilgrim haha.
@UnbelievabIeMontages
@UnbelievabIeMontages 7 лет назад
Well, he was also much faster in this one. In the first one, he was just getting back as John Wick and when he put on the gadgets and everything, he was fully back as John Wick. We also have to remember that the tunnel was very dark. It is probably why they missed so much, while when he was in the club, he was in clear view.

I gave the movie an A and I think the slight difference in opinions was that I thought it was genius to see john really hate this idea of jumping back into his work in one scene where you hear him scream after packing his bag and guns. Similar scenes to this are through the movie, and it kinda left me wanting to know more about a back story and the inner thoughts of john wick!

But what about his house being destroyed? I believe him going after Santino is not just due to the fact that Santino first forced him with that marker then tried to kill John after John killed Gianna, but also because he burned down his house which was the second sacred thing to him next to the dog. It contained all his memories he had with his wife. So this could be seen as revenge as well.
@ndep93
@ndep93 7 лет назад
Well Chris, Wick's call to action in Chapter 2 is a direct consequence to his actions in the original. Santino knew Wick wiped out Viggo and his crew, so he figured that put Wick back into play, hence his asking Wick to repay his debt. Wick was no longer out of the game, therefore Santino pressured him into delving deeper into the abyss.

This film is awesome and it is a good sequal, but the one part that lost me for a second was when the the big Asian assasin and the violinist female assasin try to kill John on the streets but they kept skipping around between those fights to him bleeding at the subway terminal before Commons character gets to him on the subway. They should've just showed him run into the Big Asain, fight him real quick, then the violinist in the tunnel, then common on the subway. I still hive it a 4.1 out of 5.

A point to consider.... I agreed with you 100% on the ending being a bit cartoony.... But I watched the film a couple times and one of my buddy's said that maybe it was an attempt to show you his paranoia at the fact that this criminal underworld is now after him... He sees a potential threat everywhere that he looks... That while true some of them may be looking at the contract, others may just be looking at their phones or in the place... The Winston scene I feel was probably orchastrates because they new wick was a legit badass but after they left it could just be to showcase his paranoia at that point

I very much agree with this review. Trying to explain the organization opens up some pretty big plot holes. Wick's character makes some really baffling decisions that contradict how his character was established previously, and he was lacking the motivation from the first film. I also felt that the pacing was a bit off. However, all that being said, the film is amazing! I just didn't think that it quite hit the high bar set by the first one.

The only reason I didn't have a problem with the amount of people in the ending scene that were revealed to be apart of the organization was thanks to the scene before where he froze all the people around John. I just assumed they were all just still hanging around after walking off, and that's who John saw as he ran.

This movie is simply badass! Always go in with lower expectations for a sequel but I didn't want this to end. A few problems but still just awesome!

I see John Wick took a page out of Jokers kill handbook with that pencil kill.

My Grandma got even more Stuckmanized this time, her eyes rolled into the back of her head and she started screaming " Super Smash Bros 1999". We still can't figure out why

Love how you're wearing a Cowboy Bebop shirt during this review, Keanu Reeves is who I'd cast as Spike in a live adaptation

Always nice to see good action movies with good stunt work. I miss that type of stuff that of stuff which doesn't get shown much (especially martial arts films).

I felt the same about the motivation from the first movie to the second. The second chapter didn't have the same emotional hook that kept the story from the first film on more of a firm track. I thought the story in this one dragged in a few places as well, but not enough to affect the pacing too much. It was an amazing film, and I didn't mind the end scene which bugged you. I actually thought they established a basis for the scene throughout the course of the movie. The action though. My god it is simply stunning to watch. Common should get some praise along with Keanu, he held his own and their fights together were some of the best and felt the most real during the movie. No CG action fights in this one. Gritty, brutal, and beautiful.

*SPOILERS* I think I know the one moment you're talking about at the end of the movie that takes you out of the moment, cause for me it was the moment when they send out the "excommunicado" message and everyone and their baby and their dog's baby around him starts receiving text messages. I had that exact same reaction of, "nope, not buying it. That's just ridiculous." Other than that, fantastic movie. Its rare I can say I agree with a reviewer 100%, but in this case I think I can.

Chris, when giving a review of a sequel, you should remind your viewers what score you gave the first installment just for reference sake.

The way i saw the ending was the realization that it's Wick vs the whole world starting to kick in, i don't think all the people along the way out of the park were assassins, but it was a sort of paranoia that any one of these people could be an assassin. so he started running because it was a Oh shit moment and he needed to be gone fast.
@morphavolo
@morphavolo 7 лет назад
That's a good point, but when everybody in the park looked at him at the precise moment then walked away, it's hard to believe it is just paranoia after that.

Saw It, loved it and will see it again once more before it leaves theatres. there was just one fight scene I did not like and that was with the glass. But loved the respect that Wick's character received from the Continental owner and mgr but thought Fishburne's scenes were too long and a bit annoying. But this had some suprises that I really liked, esp the ending scene.

I don't know if this movie does it, but I always feel distracted when there is a very obvious CGI stunt double. It sounds like the stunts in this movie have a high level of realism.

While the first movie has a choice at the beginning that pushes the whole movie, this one has a choice that completely changes everything in one moment. Both movies are clearly driven by different things but I'd say neither are better or worse than the other. Just set up differently.

I think Ch.2 is more straightforward in fighting whereas the Ch.1, you see him captured and got the audience thinking, is he gonna die?
