What an excellent performance of this Sousa's March. I loved it. Only a great director as Mr. Williams can interpretaste the spirit os another great director. The picolos sound so beautiful. Great orchestra, great musicians.
This conductor did a wonderful job. He involved the audience in an enthusiastic way and then had them be quiet at the right moment. I liked it. For those people that give negative comments about the audience applauding - well, It seems to be a tradition now for this march and I guess we have to just accept it.
Most of the people commenting don’t remember that when they were children and thoroughly enjoyed themselves on the 4th of July, it was Authur Fiedler conducting the Esplenade Orchestra that all Americans watched and enjoyed. John Williams is good but Fiedler was the Maestro!
Gran tema ! Nosotros los mexicanos tenemos la marcha de Zacatecas como segundo himno nacional y otras obras de lujo como el huapango de Moncayo y México de noche🎶🤷🏻♂️
Excellent, listen even to "Stars and Stripes Forever" march by John Philip Sousa National Symphony Orchestra USA Conductor - Mstislav Rostropovich ! (27/03/1927- 27/04/2007) Grande of the Halls of Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory February 13, 1990
clever john williams.. he knew the audience wanted to clap so he took control of it fast, giving them cues to get it out of their system then pipe down at the right moment
It isn’t just the conductor. I’ve listened to several major orchestras play same march and it’s not the exact same sound they generate. The musicians and they instruments count for a lot
I hate it when the audience claps along. It interferes with being able to just listen to and enjoy the wonderful music. There should be no clapping along with a great march any more than there should be with any other great composition such as a symphony.
Driver2151 Oh stop being such snobs!! There is totally nothing wrong with the audience clapping along with the music. First of all, this spirited march (in certain sections of course) is conducive to clapping, especially if it is in tempo with the music. After all, the clapping is only doubling the "oom pah" rhythm of the bass instruments.
I can't, (a will not) knock another band... However, musical, marching band precision can't possibly compete with 'from the heart' conducting done by a 'self-proclaimed musical illiterate' like Danny Kaye... his baton was moved by his heart and enthusiasm, not education. Danny's version of this march, reached down into the emotional, and I feel that's why it's over the top/better than any other performance I've seen.
