I'm nearly 70 and THE top three sports experiences of my life were: 1) Sandy Koufax, 2) Chicago Bears football in Wrigley Field, and 3) the UCLA Dynasty.
I'm 60 years old. So growing up I was fortunate enough to watch THE UCLA DYNASTY. It was because of Coach Wooden's philosophy. Not because of Alcindor, Walton,Goodrich or any particular player. As great as they all were.
We are not all equals as far as talent, as far as size, appearance, we’re not born in the same environments, we don’t all have the same opportunities. But we all are equal as far as having the opportunity to make the most out of what we have under the conditions that exist for us.
Must watch this video to get to know what's expected from the Leaders; should have eye on the Goals, and not to be distracted from emotions, arrogance. The principles of 'work with the people' and not work for the people; that will have larger influence on the followers to Trust the leader and acknowledge that he is part of our team. Do not distrust or criticize your team mates. Report on time and return on time; failing to prepare is to to prepare for fail, learn from the mistakes, be honest to seek help from others if you don't have the solutions. While you are on the practice ground get reminded that you'r now player and concentrate fully without distraction. Most important is to have priority first is Education and second is sports and not vice-versa. And the player should be quicker and execute well. Decision making is a tough job as demands zero tolerance on emotions comes in the way. Finally, don't complicate the job, keep it as simple as possible. Thank you John wooden sir, I really enjoyed reading your book as well as listening to your videos.
Wooden wanting to win was definitely there. Every player said he was one of the fiercest competitors there was but as stated never mentioned winning to his players.
