@@edwardmeade Shel recorded his version for Atlantic Records in 1962 on an album titled "Inside Folk Songs". Shel's version is more bitter and angry from the prisoner's point of view, while Johnny's is more chilling and dark in humor with trying to stifle his giggling. Just listen to Johnny stumble the line when he says "7 more minutes to go " instead of "4 more minutes to go." His throat was giving out after doing this and "Cocaine Blues", and no wonder he had to ask for a glass of water shortly after that.
