June Carter Cash was great as Mayhayley Lancaster. So great a performance that most viewers do not recognise her. She deserves wider recognition as a great actress.
Johnny Cash purchesed the rights to the movie. He respected Lamar Potts Jnr request that his father's memory be respected in the way he was portrayed and Cash did that. Posts Jnr gave Cash his father's pistol (which Potts rarely carried) as thanks for the sensitive portrayal. Sheriff Potts was respected for his community spirit, which is depicted here. June Cash played the psychic and had fun doing it.
Have you seen A Texas Murder? It may be A Murder in Texas. Andy is the main character, as is Sam Elliott. Farrah does her part well, as always. A top favorite. I also l9ve Texas Justice with Peter Strauss and my love, Heather Locklear. I recommend it.
MY WIFE AND I NEVER EVEN HEARD OF THIS MOVIE - WE BOTH THINK ANDY GRIFFITH AND JOHNNY CASH WERE GREAT, THOUGHT THIS CLICK BAIT, BUT IT TURNED OUT TO BE A GREAT MOVIE - THANKS FOR POSTING IT HERE SO WE CAN ALL ENJOY IT - BRAVO ALL THE WAY AROUND!!!!!!!
Johnny Cash had a GREAT line early on about how, "What we have here is a man who THINKS he's ABOVE THE LAW. We're going to show him, HE'S NOT!!" This movie should be required viewing for all those in the Judicial system - EVERYONE from the White House, all the way down to the lone cop on the beat. Democracy would be better for that. It demonstrates how very depraved, corrupt & lawless a community can become, when a power-hungry man is enabled & allowed to retain & perpetuate that belief!! Lawmakers & those who uphold & enforce the law today should take note of the consequences of looking the other way when a friend, colleague or idol believes they're above the law & acts on that premise!!
Democracy is nothing but mob rule. I don't understand why people can't figure that out. See, when the majority wins because of voting, we can end up with very bad laws because there are no checks and balances in democracy, just a bunch of people voting the same. The news is always saying "a threat to our democracy" but what they mean is that those who don't vote like them are evil. So they do whatever they can to lie, cheat, harass and use the media to get what they want. Might does not make right and mob rule is just the majority vote. That is not democracy.
When people are brutalised they become brutal. When people are hopeless they see no future. When people are treated badly they pass the pain on. A few will instinctively fight against it, but they suffer for standing up and drawing attention.
I was sure Cash would play Wallace and Griffith would play Sheriff Potts, glad to see it was the other way around. This is a true story. The death sentence was carried out quickly, now murderers sit on death row for decades, it shouldn't be that way.
In the United States, prisoners may wait many years before execution can be carried out due to the complex and time-consuming appeals procedures mandated in the jurisdiction.
I THINK THIS IS WHY HE WENT ON TO DO MATLOCK IN 1986 AS A DEFENSE LAWYER ANDY GRIFFITH HAS DONE A LOTTA PARTS BUT I DONT KNOW ANY OTHER BAD ROLES HID DID BESIDES IN THIS MOVIE IF YOU CHECKOUT JACKIE CHAN HE WAS A STUNTMAN KUNGFU STAR IN THE MOVIE ENTER THE DRAGON HE PLAYS A BAD GUY AMONG OTHER MOVIES BRUCE LEE DIDNT KILL HIM BUT BEAT HIM UP BUT HE PLAYED GOD GUY ROLES MORE THAN BAD ROLE ONLY ONE LEADING BAD ROLE HE PLAYED IN IS KILLER METEORS
Mayhayley Lancaster was my great aunt. My mom told me all kinds of stories about her and about this movie when it first came out. I finally got to see it. Johnny Cash, Andy Griffith and June Carter Cash were great
I watched this as a kid - I remember realizing how amazing Andy Griffith was - Johnny surprised me the most - I had no idea the depth of his extraordinary intelligence and talent -
Great movie. It reminds me of an old U.S.Marchalls with. Tommy Lee Jones. And every movie I've seen with Jonny Cash, Cash as always dine a great acting job.
When Cahs acts, his voice matches the tone he used in the Ballot of John Henry. "No go on Polyane, get my hammer," and when you swing it, they'll all know you're Johnn Hennry's woman." There's a few other songs where he speaks over the music as well and it's that tone, that stoic deadpan tone that marks the Man In Black. RIPP Mr. Cash, a true legend
Andy Griffith playing a bad guy and doing a hell of a good job at it. He must have jumped at the chance to play that role where he has always been "the good guy". Hats off Andy!!!?
Andy should've never left Mayberry! Who would've thought that he was no better with a gun than Barney! I agree that there was some excellent acting in this movie & saddened that it portrayed a real event
Two men, no matter how strong, could carry a dead body strung to a pole very far. Much less through the forest. I hope this is not a spoiler, because the movie is pretty good otherwise. Seeing Andy Griffith and Johnny Cash in non-traditional roles is a treat.
*_M M M M M....._* I hadn't watched this keenly explicating film in ages!!!! 👌 Gotta love the well portrayed aspects of that famous "Southern Hospitality" and the overwhelming embracing of True Christian Ethics.... in their self-anointed _"Bible Belt"._ Which extend to this very day, especially in Georgia!!! 🤣
Both andy and Johnny gave great performances, and i gotten say for a TV movie, the period look of Georgia in the late 1940s was incredible, everything was spot on. Many feature films many times don't get it right, just use old clothes and change hair style. But not the atmosphere. Also, see Andy in another great t v movie, Savages , again, great bad guy. , made around 1974.
..poor Johnny, ..he'd been thu alot of hard living and you can see it etched into his face. His father was a strict authoritarian and surviving the horrific death of his Brother as a child must have been sheer terror and Hell. 🔥🌌
Andy Griffith is the perfect actor to play the bad guy, because he can play the good guy so well! Reminds me of what my daddy always used to say: (God Rest his soul,) "Always be careful of the guy who will smile in your face and Shake Your Hand while the whole time he is peeing down your leg."
Good movie. It's a challenge to put actors into a new perspective. Putting Griffith into the roll of an evil, vendictive, power hungry man, that stops at nothing to have his way. He does the part well. Cash also does a good job on his part.
A very good film. Interesting that it has only been made available on RU-vid over the past few weeks, although it was made over 40 years ago (1983). Ulterior motive?
Actually I made it available on RU-vid over a decade ago but the producer contacted me and ask if I would take it down since he was about to release it on DVD. He was a very nice man and even offered me a free copy of the newly remastered DVD. Told him I had my digital copy but asked him to send a copy to a nursing home since I knew some older people that were big fans of Cash & Griffith and he gladly sent it out.
Andy Griffith was the original Private Will Stockdale in the 1950's comedy classic, NO TIME FOR SERGEANTS with Nick Adams as Private Ben Witlow and Don Knott's and etc.
Remember this movie from when it first was on TV back in 1983 it was great back then and still is a great movie today. Oh and far better than the "Woke" junk that comes out today.
