Sweepin' The Clouds Away - a tribute to some of the dance bands, orchestra leaders and singers of the 20s and 30s, featuring the title track from The Johnny Crawford Dance Orchestra CD. This video originally had all the bands and band leaders captioned using a now- deleted RU-vid tool, but the titles disappeared when the tool did.

I first heard this in the '70s. It accompanied a pleasant little animation about tourists on the planet Mars, and was sung by Fred Astaire. The cartoon opened with frog-like Martians greeting human tourists wearing stereotypical 1950s tourist clothing, walking under a banner that read "Welcome To Mars, Where Every Day Is Like New Year's Eve". I didn't hear it again until recently, a result of the magic of the internet. Thank you for publishing this. -- Hank Eason, on a borrowed site.

This is a truly excellent aggregation led by Mr. Crawford--and thanks so much for remembering some of the early "dance band" leaders, who contributed greatly to the musical history of America and Britain--this was delightful!

I loved watching The Rifleman. If it weren't for Johnny I probably would not have cared much for the show. I too had a crush on him. I was SO young then. He still has that sweet smile. I am so glad he is doing all that he has been doing. What a nice guy. Thanks for this vid.

I was watching old episodes of THE RIFLEMAN. I got to wondering what Johnny Crawford is up to these days and was pleasantly surprised to discover him making this delightful music. I have in my music collection a fair number of recordings by 1930's dance bands (mostly English): Ray Noble, Charlie Kunz, Ambrose. What Johnny is doing, because he remains faithful to the old scores even while recording with the new technology, is bring about an even greater appreciation of this music. Well done!

We love the cd at my little house...all the dogs love the beat and his voice. God bless all the musicians who cheer us and bring out the smile!! By the way, Perry Como cds will put babies and animals to sleep with a smile! Love the photos here...thanks, Johnny!

This great tune is one of my new favorites. I've always liked old movie musicals, and this is a fabulous rendition of a tune from that era. Thanks for keeping the music alive! Hope to make it to one of Johnny's concerts this year. Thanks for posting this!

An excellent convincing early thirties big band sound. I'm Curious about the arranging...its truly so well done. Was this newly arranged to mimic the early thirties big band or was this a 1931 arrangement? The recording engineers did a fantastic job to make this all come together and with Mr. Crawford's "crooning" voice...it does. Well done by all.

Too bad he now has Alzheimer's at 74. I really like his music. I think his band was used in a movie a few years ago. May have been one of the Indiana Jones movies.

@scrabjan1 Well, I know a little bit more about them after making this, but I'm still learning! I love the old vintage photographs, especially the one of Bebe Daniels being serenaded by Abe Lyman after she was arrested for speeding.

Where is Johnny now? I never hear him on tv.for interviews. Who is his wife? I would love to see him in person sometime. Maybe in Rolla at the Leach Theatre. at the S & T. Castleman Hall. Always wanted to meet him. Maybe someday soon.

@themama471 He's based in Los Angeles, and he's got some public appearances planned over the next few months.--Chicago, Memphis, and Ft Worth, Texas, with more coming (we hope). His facebook fan page is an active one, where he posts several times a week. Check it out!
