Johnny Depp is one of the most versatile actors that exist. A great reference for everybody on acting. Great characters developed and great job, Johnny.
he has social anxiety when there isn't too much attention focused on him, he is much more comfortable with speaking and is actually a very thoughtful and interesting person
I think he has embraced his dark side though and he likes working with Tim Burton who is a bit dark too and his band is called Hollywood Vampires and is a bit Goth too that seems like his personality.
I just watched Ed Wood last night again for the second time and really enjoyed it.I caught it when it first came out in the theater and wasn't as blown away as the second time through.Martin Landau really did a wonderful job capturing the tragic quality of Lugosi, and Depp was hilarious as Wood.
Johnny Depp is awesome, wonderful performance in the movie and I enjoy his comments here. I agree with him, there is a kinship between Wood and later people like Waters and Lynch.
Around this time he had broken up with Winona Ryder and I think in an interview he or someone who was working with him at the time said he was having a difficult time with it.
yeah i have read about it! Tim Burton the director of this film and a good friend of Johnny said he had a difficult time during the shooting of this film! :/
Valerie Marie there was a sadness to his portrayal in ed wood that really sold the characters heart ache and defeat. johnny depps best role in my opinion, and my favorite film of tim burtons period. I adore this film as much as mr. wood adored his angora
Ed Wood was a very good filmmaker. Glen or Glenda is a masterpiece, not only a very entertaining movie but also very brave to make this movie in that time with all those censors and witchhunters around, and Wood did not care, he made his movie the way he wanted. Too bad he never had budgets like Hawks or Ford.
Thank ee' for the BTS look at a highly entertaining n yet overlooked movie that unfortunately didn't reach much of an audience(like Ed Wood himself.) not that I'm puzzled even knowing how it was critically acclaimed. Anyway I watched them b4 but wanted to take em for another spin. Depp seems like a pretty sophisicated actor-like he researches all his roles pretty dilligently n derives satisfaction from all facets of acting.
he is such a great interview. he knows what he is saying and understands what he is saying. not like these other actors though good actors (not comparing to johnny depp) they act so stupid and confused when interviewed
@missym877 - The interviewers asking Johnny to keep his answers short (30 secs) - probably so the vid can be edited into sound bytes and assembled with clips or other material.
@coolarman Oh god your right. I love the fact that the guys who made metal gear and world of warcraft said "No! No, no, no, no! We are not letting you make a crappy movie based on our awared winning video games."
Matt Halbmaier Blow, Chocolat, Finding Nederland, The Libertine, Sweeney Todd, Public Enemies are not cheap crap. Black Mass could've been better as a whole but his performance was great.
gabrielle g I agree with you, but Chocolat was 2000 and Blow was 2001. As a true fan I have to say the movies you listed he did great work in and should have been nominated for Black Mass even though it wasn't that good. I know they did it on the cop's perspective but who wants to see that? Imagine Henry Hill or the feds perspective? LOL all in all Johnny should have won, I hate when they give Oscars away for past mistakes and cuz someone has been around a long time......
Is that common in modern interviews for the interviewer to say "in 30 seconds" when asking for an answer? Edit: great actor great movie and the interviewer asking interesting questions too
It's about the late movie director Ed Wood who, in 1959, made what was voted the worst movie ever made ("Plan 9 from outer space") and in 1981 was voted the worst director of all time. I highly recommend you see this movie - it tells the story of Ed Wood and his friendship with Bela Lugosi (who played Dracula). The movie stars Johnny Depp, Sarah Jessica Parker, Patricia Arquette and Martin Landau (who deservedly won the Oscar for his portrayal of Bela Lugosi).
What are you talking about? Yeah, he doesn't speak well because he's shy or whatever, but from what he does say it's obvious he's well-read and thoughtful.
it recently came out that there's evidence that it wasn't true, that he never touched his wife other than to hold her down to get her to stop hitting him.
