Has Hathaway ever actually seen Edward Scissorhands?! "I remember seeing Edward Scissorhands. Um..I really remember, well, er..the whole movie" then going on... "Um, yeah. I remember urr, I remember the err..??"
So Burton is basically saying that because Lewis Carroll's world doesn't have a story, he let the actors choose for themselves what they wanted the characters to be and had the writer revolve a story around the actors' choices. ......................................................................................................... That process only works for a stage show, not a film!
Hah yeah I felt even though I liked the movie, he missed the idea of the story and it became really a conventional story. The point is the structure and story is more chaotic and cryptic. Instead he said he wanted to give it more structure.
No, that's not correct. Any art, including a movie, is an interpretation. An artistic view and collaboration between the artists. They don't try to copy and make the same image as in the books. Even happy potter is different at time a lot from the books, considering the fact that J K Rowling has been the producer of the HP movies. The book itself should stay in its own view, and stay in the vision of the author ,personal. And, the story written in a book must give the reader the imagination of picture and characters ,and keep its own image. Same with Alice in Wonderland, they gave justice to the story and characters. But acting and directing is act of act and it can't go without creating and inventing!
