I don't think this is a love song of his. He's written great ones-- I think 'Murmuration' from Country Mile is one he wrote for Beatrice but I'm not 100% sure-- but Barnacled Warship is more social commentary on how societal influence-- the barnacles-- can cling to the body of a warship, or a person.
