Written by the late Linda Creed teamed up with Thom Bell back when she was close to dying of Breast Cancer. Linda Creed was a White girl from Philly who was a major piece to the establishment of beautiful and meaningful R&B music. Mrs Creed wrote the Greatest Love of All first sung by George Benson for the Muhammad Ali movie called the Greatest and then resung by the awesome late Whitney Houston as well as You make me feel Brand New, Betcha by Golly Wow sung by the Stylistics and Old Friend sung by Phyllis Hyman and how can we forget Rubber Band Man sung by the Spinners and so many more bangin songs.
He was only 18 singing like a man who been around for a long time dealing with heartbreak. That's why Johnny Gill is one of my all time favorite singers.
It was also one of the reasons that Cotillion, the label he was signed to when he recorded this album didn't know how to market him. He had such a mature singing voice for one so young.
My reply is very late, but if person is capable of feeling real thing to an opposite sex it is exactly those years, about 16-20 years. Later it's becoming harder due to hart being hardening.

This is one of those Lays songs...you can never hear it just once. I have to repeat at least 3 x's. I never noticed the actress from Coming To America also I didn't notice that she was a spirit in the video. Makes you feel the song even more.

I was 22 when I used to watch this on BET. It was my first introduction to Johnny Gill. Powerful ballad, incredible voice, the man has old school SOUL.
Not often mentioned but I consider him to be in the group of , Peabo,Jeffrey Osborne, Kieth Washington , Kashif George Benson and like wise. He very underrated singer that deserves more accolades. After new edition he has become more soulful. To me he posed the best vocal in the group and it proven by the songs made after the group parted.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SONG... I saw JG in concert in the 90's, and like the groupie I am. I waited for him to come out, when he did, I got to hug him and talk to him.
