A lot of people dont know Bobby did perform with them on stage on a couple shows on that tour. Bobby would do his set, NE would theirs & Bobby would come back out & do Jealous Girl & Mr Telephone Man with NE & the crowds would go ballistic.
Yeah in the movie they tried to make fake tension people don’t know Bobby still did certain shows with them and in fact Ralph was hanging out with Bobby more than New Edition
@@davruck1 There’s audio recordings of Bobby performing with new edition on the heartbreak tour trust me im a big bobby brown fan i know what im talking bout 😂
NE's sound changed from that point on. JG was that element they needed. You can play the _Heart Break_ album today and it still sounds as fresh it did when it dropped 35 years ago. And it's a new jack classic!!!
Releasing Dont Be Cruel & Heartbreak on the same day was a genius play by Louil Silas & I bet Busby was in on it all along. That was basically a double album for MCA. Its not like Bobby & NE had any say, both had something to prove after recent events.
Ya'll gotta be honest, JG had something to do with NE's album selling as much as it did. I can honestly say that when I heard his voice on that album it put them in a whole new atmosphere. His voice changed the path that they would've probably taken. He added that grown mature sound to them. I always enjoyed them and their music, went to one of their concerts as a kid when they had the hit "Cool it now."
You nailed it exactly. NE never would have been able to maintain the interest of the audience who grew up listening to them if they hadn't added Johnny's vocals to the group. They were also able to get new fans to buy their albums and attend the concerts due to the new mature sound.
I can't imagine bringing Johnny Gill into a group and not giving him any leads. And yet, the one song he ultimately got was Boyz II Men, and it's my favorite on the album.
He is and always was very humble. I met them twice and he was so nice and normal. He never fought for the spotlight. Soon as he opened his mouth at the concert the spotlight found HIM.
Johnny doesn't give himself enough credit. Earlier this year in Dallas while Bobby was sick, He straight killed "My Perogative" and other Bobby Brown songs. He definitely has a strong stage presence.
@@Writer341 No Way, its New Edition easy. Otis hurt the Temps by putting too many members in that group. If they had stayed with just the 5 and Dennis than maybe you would have an argument but New Edition is JUST 6 guys with tons of hits from just those 6 guys.
I'm a big fan of Todd Bridges, Different Stokes, and I loved his autobiography Killing Willis book (2011). This interview was very informative and I'm glad I watched it.
That was on the pop charts. "Heartbreak" peaked at No. 2 album on the Billboard R&B Albums charts. But to answer your question somewhat, George Michael's "Faith" was the No. 1 album on the Billboard R&B Albums chart from mid-May through June; Al B. Sure!'s "In Effect Mode" was the No. 1 album from July to early August; EPMD's "Strictly Business" was No. 1 from late August to early September; then Bobby Brown's "Don't Be Cruel," Public Enemy's "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back" and Freddie Jackson's "Don't Let Love Slip Away" took turns at No. 1 from September through mid-November (source: Billboard magazine).
Neither of them had say in the matter of release time. Louil Silas was in charge of getting both albums completed. Keep NE in one place with Flyte Tyme and let Bobby work with various producers and meet the deadlines. It shows in both New Editon and Bobby story Louil was going to keep them near each other any way he could.
I believe RIAA is lying. I'm thinking at least 5 million copies. I think they are lying about these other R & B artists 1st Albums: Keith Sweat, Mary J. Blidge and Guy!
@blakew2168 Do you have proof that it is accurate My Nigga? Alot of the artist themselves have said the same thing. Points from sales and Royalties missing. One of the Oldest tricks in the music industry!
Those sales numbers were during "Heartbreak'"s commercial run from 1988 to late 1989. It's likely much higher than that now over the past three-plus decades, especially given New Edition's resurgence in popularity over the past 10 years.
He was a great fit for the group... Bobby needed to go do his Solo stuff and all that what came with it....get it out of his system. You know how people have that if I coulda. woulda. shoulda moment.of what might have been....It can be a bad thing to stiffle someone's creativity .. They gotta get that out of their system, or it will break up the group for good.. Deciding to add JG was one of those for the group..with the thought that Ralph might leave for good.. Ralph obviously came around... He was probably happy later on for sure... Then Bobby came back.. They were an even better group all together. What fans like about this group is.. they never stopped someone from pursuing independent creative endeavors... Kinda, like the group, never broke up.. They just gave each other the time and space they needed. and they came back together again better and better... It actually made the group better..
If you listen to both albums together it’s almost like a double album despite Bobby having more new jack swing jacks the ballads on don’t be cruel sound like new edition singing back up
What the Hell is the Interviewer talking about🤷🏾NE been Platinum or Double Platinum at the Onset”Google It”They were use to it it was Johnny who was new to those screams🤷🏾♂️But it was a Excellent choice for all of them adding Johnny “Changed all there lives for the good”!!!
