Johnny Guitar Watson was ahead in his time. He could play almost every instruments beside being a producer. He started with blues and threw jazz, soul he went to the funk. He was a genius period
Listen to his "Three Hours Past Midnight" and you'll see why Jimmie Vaughan said, "When my brother Stevie and I were growing up in Dallas, we idolized very few guitarists. We were highly selective and highly critical. Johnny 'Guitar' Watson was at the top of the list." Zappa and Steve Miller felt the same way.
Sorry that y’all can’t hear this from the perspective of a guitarist. Watson is so amazing. But what jimmy Page , Hendrix and Beck were doing was not the same thing. They innovated with Long legato sustain and more . Watson was a staccato player, to his credit.
