Johnny Hiland at the Experience PRS event on 28 Sept 2007 playing Mercury Blues. Gary Grainger on bass and Greg Grainger on drums, with Paul Reed Smith on whammy bar. Unfortunately I ran out of video tape during this one.
I clicked the like button on the first couple of seconds as I already knew Johnny was going to deliver a fucking awesome performance, I love this guy!!!
Oh my gooodness...Johny for ever, long life to him, long life....what life took away from him with blindness, it gave back in million times the talent. Addie
This guy is a very, very great guitarist and musician!!!...Definitively the best one i've listened to since SRV..Thx Johnny...:-)...Have a very long career.....
Johnny Hiland was born with a medical condition, and he can't help his size, and he is almost blind due to this condition. I know because he grew up in my hometown and yes I find your comment rude.
seriously? he has a custom made signature Johnny Hiland guitar, im sure they've met a few times. anyone who looks up any PRS vids has seen this guy dozens of times
... is it just me... or Johnny Hiland remind you of Shawn Lane? Not physically (even though that is a shallow statement, I apologize)... but musically. They're arguably THE BEST at what genre they chose. I have YET to hear a better musician than either of them. Their playing is of course... fast... but it's an interesting fast. It's not just senseless shredding but has so much impact behind the choices. They also have probably the most beautiful instruments too. Shawn's Ibanez and Johnny's PRS.
As for "the best" i think this is a useless contest....What separates Johnny H is that he obviously has a lot of fun with what he is doing and is a very rhythmic player with bends everywhere.....he's got the feel for several genres.....but i doubt that he plays gypsy jazz like Rory with the Gypsy Hombres another "blind" player....or Stochelo Rosenberg. Scotty Anderson has for years intimidated country and jazz players alike....but Johnny is good for rocking out with the country blues no doubt. Rock on big guy!!
totally wicked good... amazing, but I wish he would hold some notes longer.. like bend one out for a whole measure and make everyone cringe with excitement...MORE TENSION!
@gangtwanger If we're talking about talent, Johnny would win. If we're talking about personality, Johnny would win. If we're talking about coming to blows, Johnny would still win. I've met Popa. He's an ass***e.
johnny is only LEGALLY blind, he can still see things. otherwise, he wouldnt ever look at the fretboard, he would stare straight ahead or something. In the Yahoo! Health Encyclopedia, anyone with vision worse than 20/200 that cannot be improved with corrective lenses is considered legally blind. In addition, people with a visual field of less than 20 degrees diameter (10 degrees radius) are also considered legally blind.
