wow, this black guy from Brooklyn love this group, saw Johnnie in concert at the world trade center back in 2001 a few weeks before 9/11 happened..RIP Johnnie, perfect voice, super human being, you are truly missed..
So often we see artists from back in the day and we think geez, why didn't you bow out gracefully when you still had a voice. With Johnny Maestro he never lost that voice; he kept going right to the end and was still fantastic. It brings tears to my eyes and a lump to my throat listening to his great voice and remembering how wonderful life and the music was all those years ago. R.I.P Johnny.
i agree to some extent--he doesn't have the voice he had on this show--but his voice and range are better now than so many of his contemporaries were back in 50's and 60's. he had such power and range which is difficult for untrained singers who generally lose range with power or sacrifice power to obtain.. to top it all off maestro had a smoothness that can soothe and the emotion that made him one of the greatest singers ever to croon to your loved one in ways most of his were incapable of. but put on a crest record snuggle your date in your arms and tell her he's singing my feelings to you. it seems in my possibly slanted opinion that the loss of singers like johnny maestro has contributed to the loss of romance. or maybe it was the other way, when romance was lost no one listened to singers of romance anymore, i don't know.

Richie Rosato and Johnny Maestro are two of the greatest male vocalists of all time. They are a true gift from GOD. What a privilage to have witnessed their beautiful performances, I will be forever grateful.
I’m sitting on my patio listening to this great music. My neighbors are in their pool playing some modern country music that can’t compare to this. In fact, it is nothing but noise. No harmonies, no lyrics, and bad music. What a difference.
I'm right there with you...I got to see two of The Brooklyn Bridge shows....they were AMAZING, so sad to lose Johnny and Freddy and now Les a year ago 😪 their music will live on in all of us
Johnny Maestro was a little before my time but I started listening to his songs and his voice was amazing. Now I know all the words to his songs. I love his voice and songs. R.I.P. Johnny and sing with the angels😇
The notes that Johnny could hit and the length of time he held those notes was just spectacular. I loved the “gravel” you could hear in his voice occasionally. He seemed like a kind and modest man. Just a little side note I bet he was a good dancer too. Like I said in a previous comment “Johnny you’re in heaven singing in Gods choir... Your voice and music will forever live on in our heart.
My mother listened to him when he played with the Crests. I would steal her record “Step by Step”. I haven’t stopped listening since. Saw him 5 times. I had tickets to see him the year he died. I will always love him. Rest In Peace Johnny.
God how I love this music. It brings me such joy to watch them because they clearly love what they do. The most beautiful voices...how I wish I could have seen them live but so grateful we have these videos. They are all singing with the angels now...heaven must be a lovely place with them in it
The thing about Johnny Maestro is that his voice is even better now than it was when the song originally came out. His voice was always phenomenal, but that he not only retained it but improved it leaves me speechless!
Me too!!! l would know his music 🎵 playing from any place. He had such a unique voice that is very hard to come pare to any other Doo-wop 50-60's group, the first time I heard him,I fell in love with his voice, and I'm still very sad about his passing,R.I.P.
Here these guys are in at least their sixties and great harmony you can hear every note on key. There will never ever ever be another voice like Johnny Maestro but kudos as well to all of these guys who can all really sing.
Thanks for all the great memories this man brings back .............Truly a special singer this man Maestro was, his music will always be with us forever.......RIP
I went to see Johnny and The Brooklyn Bridge in '69 at a local high school. Johnny came out looking as dapper as always. The Brooklyn Bridge were dressed very casually, young, and they looked like Johnny had just picked them off the streets. When they started playing I couldn't believe my ears. All were polished musicians and the drummer blew me away. RIP Johnny. Thank you for the thrills and chills.
It's just odd sometimes how life works. I was a little sad when Johnny left the Crests because together they sang so good. But then he hooked up with Dion's Del-Satins and eventually the unique sound of the Brooklyn Bridge was born. All were great singers and excellent musicians who gave us beautiful song after song and entertained our hearts and souls for the next 50 years. It just couldn't have worked out better for us lovers of real music.
I had the pleasure of seeing Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge in the 1980's in Pittston Pa at the Staircase Lounge. So much talent in the band and his voice was phenomenal.
Jimmy Webb wrote signature songs for a lot of artists. When Mastrangelo and The Brooklyn Bridge recorded his "The Worst That Could Happen" - it was an instant classic.
One of the highlights of working at B103 on Long Island back in the 90s was getting to see this band led by Johnny and that voice perform so often, whether it was our summer concert series or I remember the B103 5th Anniversary party where they headlined. They always blew the crowd away! And to get to know them even a little was so special, especially when Johnny was living in Islip. I remember many times the phone would ring and it was Johnny's wife calling the request line to say they were listening and wanted to hear a song. Wonderful people, great talent, and this video is a treasure!
Johnny Maestro is without question the best singer of all time. He had a range with quality and he had it all the way to the end. All others lost quality. But Johnny seemed to get even better. Why can’t we have music like this today. Thank God for RU-vid. My guess is JSU’s has Johnny as the lead singer of the heavenly choir right now
I don't know about that being entirely true....until his Alzheimers starting kicking in hard, he only grew better. And Mel Carter is still performing in his 80s as brilliantly and smoothly as is humanly possible!
Best voice and total performance we had ever seen. Saw him 3 times in person and was so impressed out of the hundreds of shows we have seen. Hands down the best.
I saw Johnny & the Brooklyn Bridge at Joe Pop’s on LBI, NJ. Then later they were at Woodbridge, NJ concerts, last concert right before he passed. Why isn’t he in the Rock n Roll,Hall of Fame? RIP Johnny!
I was blessed to hear some of greatest entertainers of my life, Elvis, Streisand, Tina Turner, Jim Morrison & the Doors, Bob Dylan, Justin Timberlake but I will always regret not seeing Johnny Maestro live. He had a huge fan base on the East Coast sea shore, SRO. He did not need a fussy Vegas venue, it was rumored that if power went out, his show went on. The women loved him!
Johnny's version of Unchained Medly featured in this concert is beyond descriptive words. It is the perfect version, it has no equal. The Righteous Brothers whom are one of my favorite groups would admit it I am sure. Johnny Masteto was one of the best & is deeply missed & he's looking down & watching us watching him performing. Rest In Peace.
Somewhere around 1963 my band played at a club in Long Beach Long Island, and we were told another group would be sharing the time with us ( THE BRAVADOS ) Wew were a little " cocky " as we were becoming known as " THE " band in the Long Island area. Johnny started to sing and I could not believe my ears, he was so great. Now I believe he was the greatest male voice in doowop music. For sure.....
@dreamdancer No I do not recall The BRAVADOS also played at a beach club ( now called The Sands ) but then was El Patio, and we played the " rock" room both Friday nights and Saturday nights while Tito Puente played the " smooth " room on Saturday nights only
In the Pantheon of Voices, there are such names as Sam Cooke, Karen Carpenter, Gary Puckett, and the one and only Johnny Maestro. Waiting till I get to Rock and Roll Heaven.
Johnny had the most wonderful voice I’ve ever heard, brought tears to my eyes some of his songs.I’m so blessed to have seen his live shows many many times in Ny area.. He’s got the best talent and what an amazing voice range. I love the group, rip Johnny Fred, Les…❤️❤️❤️😢😢😢
They were a good group. Johnny was very good. The Del Satins backed me up on some of my records. I wonder how old Johnny was when he passed away? Those were wonderful years for oldie goldie music.
BEST male sinnger ever in American Music History. Some come close, Jimmy B of the Skyliners and Willie Winfield of the Harptones, but Johnny will always be #1.
Sixteen candles always followed Step by Step in their shows. I know this. Yet, every time the intro to Sixteen Candles begins, I get a chill. Never fails. "Do you remember..."
I believe this concert was in Stamford. CT. His voice was one of a kind. A retired Stamford police officer. Mike Docimo aka "the doo wop cop" would always play one of Johnny's songs because he knew how much I enjoyed this great performer. I also got the honor of meeting Johnny personally and he gave me a kiss. One of my very special memories.
When was this recorded? My Cousin played with the Brooklyn Bridge for years. Ed Lisciandro. He played Base. He had left the group just before this but was a staple with them for years. Thank you for this. I enjoyed it so much. I had the pleasure of seeing Johnny live at least 3 times. He was simply the best and was taken way too soon!
can't thank you enough for this video. Only got to see them once, but oh what a show!! Great guys Freddy, Les and of course Johnny.R.i.p. Now I can relive that great evening.
I heard Johnny and the Crests sing the original recording of Gee on xm radio. I swear his voice is even better at this age than back then. Best voice ever.
I saw them at The Fillmore East in Manhattan in 1971.....a lesser known David Bowie opened for them......Johnny Maestro was a brilliant performer and a legend. Thank you for posting this great video
