is that not great; i was born in mexico, my father in California, 1925, moved to pasadena in late 60's he is my all time favorite out of my country singer...which is your mother? hope she is around, still
A 25 year old John can really sing like no other ballad singer back then in 1960. His appearances on Ed Sullivan really helped to make him a worldwide sensation. Now in 2023 he can still sing many of his big hits, and command a devoted fan base even 68 years later.
But, Johnny Mathis is world renowned famous. He's been in show business for 64 yrs, and he is still selling out auditoriums and concert halls all across the world. Hos Christmas album is the biggest selling Christmas album of all time. He's won countless awards and he's sung and performed with some of the biggest names in show business in R & B/Soul, pop, contemporary pop and jazz music. Believe me I say, he has a career most people would dream of having and still would love to have if given the opportunity. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Mathis#Grammys
One reason in the 60s at least was that the ruling entertainment mafia, largely led by Frank Sinatra, didn't like John. Several reasons, not least the fact that he was a gay man who didn't conform to their stereotypical gallivanting, womanising Rat Pack click. Personally, I always felt that they were threatened by his talent and popularity on the romantic ballad side of things - they would regularly 'out' him on stage as that 'African Queen' - yes, not so 'good old Frank' after all. And what Sammy Davis Junior was thinking about this rap at the time, I have no idea. Still, John had the last laugh - still popular 30 years after they are dead and gone.
He's had nothing but TV specials, recognition, and awards since his youth. He's had dozens of Billboard hits in my lifetime. He has led a life of unfettered success and adulation from his fan base. Your comment is bizarre to me but I guess we each have our own perspectives.
Filmed 60 years ago. Creative routine very un-Mathis like, but it shows he really could make the moves. One of his brother’s looks like his twin. Great rendition of Sinatra’s “Come Dance With Me.” One of the greatest popular singers we have ever had.
He does it all well, fast and bouncy, the quiet intense love songs, and he dances! What a great show that would have been! My Love for a You is a killer!
His brothers are the cutest and proudest 👏🏼 👏🏼 for their shooting to the stars Brother johnny 🌠 ✨ On the road to GREATNESS like no other ! ❤ Total knockout
Since I was a little boy Johnny Mathis' 1958 Christmas Album has been playing in our home. The album came from my grandparents who also loved Johnny Mathis. We will put his Christmas Album on early in December to get us all in the Christmas Spirit as its not Christmas without Johnny. What a kind soul that can be evident in his music and that amazing voice. Just yesterday I purchased tickets to his Christmas Concert on Dec.9, 2023. Thank You John Mathis for everything you do and have given all of us. Side question.... what car is he driving down Lombard St. in this video. Anyone?
Sat17102020:::2101:::Flawless + Priceless + Loving = Perpetual. Before landing on e Moon~> before landing on Mars ***** Mathis Is. Stay Safe n be Blessed Johnny.
The best part of this video is the last song...My Love for You... I dont care for the fast up beat songs at all. He should always stick to the ballads where he excels.
I’m not sure this was in 1960. Ed Sullivan refers to a proposed tour to Australia. That took place in November 1958. Mathis also performed in Australia in 1980. I saw him on that occasion.
.. i think it's 1960 not 58 because that's a video recording and they didn't have videos in 58 + It's maybe " October 16 of 1960" (60:10:16) as showed in the littering. That's what i think.
Mathis is good alright but what about Ed Sullivan here, sitting in Mathis car, his hand on Mathis knee and whispering a torch love song in Mathis ear. That's Ed at his sweet best !
It's because it comes from the footage before it was aired. This was rehearsal. It's solid gold and still perfect and incredible, but looser than live TV or the used take. They probably used a few of these takes in the broadcast, but this is absolutely beautiful!
