Listen to all of his songs. Listen to Nat King Cole too...That Sunday That Summer, Unforgettable, Almost Like Being In Love and more. At the end of the movie Groundhog Day, it was Nat singing Almost Like Being In Love. ❤❤❤❤
My grandpa used to sing this song to my grandma all of the time. Just two nights ago my grandpa passed, 8 years after my grandma. I shed some happy tears listening, just knowing my grandpa can finally sing this to her again. I love and miss you. With all of my heart.
My dad used to sing this to mom. Dad passed a couple of years ago, mom passed in June. We are planning the joint memorial service for both and want this to be played if the Church will allow it. Happy memories of an undying love and respect for each other. They were two of the most precious people I will ever know.
In my humble opinion Mr.Mathis is one of the most underestimated singers ever, this classic just makes me melt, the orchestra are top quality musicians 😢❤
Cela me fait transporter dans les étoiles avec des musiciens de qualité 3:30 Il n'y a plus qu'à fermer les yeux pour dormir. Ma mère adoré Johnny Mathis .❤
I've listen to Johnny mathis since 1960 when I was three n had a stack of his records at home I love this particular song as it's so romantic for someone like me whose heart is softer. But I still can't find a girl nowadays as romantic n lovely as the song❤
No , things are just not the same anymore…its the age we live in..IM SOOO GLAD AND THANKFUL THAT MY HUSBAND AND I WERE MARRIED FOR 63 years until he passed a few years ago.. AND WE LOVED the 60s…it was just soo innocent back then..and much more romantic !! TODAY I FEEL SAD FOR YOUNG PEOPLE !!!
Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole et al. had perfect enunciation, especially when compared to modern songs where the lyrics are pure guesswork. OMG, I sound like my dad!
@@martinrobinson8200 I don't wanna be THAT guy who complains about modern music and says the old days are better, but as a Canadian who is forced to listen to Michael Buble on the radio by law, he's so terrible compared to the old singers.
This is the favorite song of my deceased husband Don I thank God for my wonderful marriage.A beautiful blessings from God the greatest gift I have received from him. Thank you Lord with all my heart.
This song reminds me of the 90's in Satellite Town Lagos Nigeria. We had a land phone my dad locked in a wooden box, could only dial within Nigeria unless he inputted the codes to dial overseas, I always picked a collect call from my aunt in Parsippany, NJ, got into fights in High School, returned back home after a long trek in the sun with my buddy Nnamdi who's now married in the UK......I can go on and on.....This song gets me "Misty" eyed!
I met my husband 41 years ago on an unusual but very romantic way. He played this song on the piano and I sang it. It became our favorite. Sadly he passed away 22 years ago, we would have been married39 years. I still play and listen to it.
Wow! This sounds so sad.. i can’t imagine losing a soul mate and having to remember them by a song. This must be heart wrenching. i fell in love for the first time, way back in 1975 and it was the Ray Steven’s version, that « led me on ! » I never new that Johnny Mathis wrote and sang this song.. we live, love and learn
My boyfriend had this playing gently through the car stereo as we drove, watching the sun set in the rear view mirrors. If I could only have stretched those few moments out for an eternity...
Johnny singing 'Misty' with this arrangement behind him is, in my mind, the finest example of what music is all about and what it is meant to be, to touch our spirit and awaken thoughts of love which we, way too often, tuck away in our hearts away from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. We tear up and in many cases cry uncontrollably when we hear Johnny sing it and if we listen to it a thousand times, the feelings we get will never ebb. "Look at me, I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree." After that opening line a listener hearing it for the first time gets 'locked in' and can't wait for more!
Yes indeed with all of the arrangement behind him he was fun to listen to. However he could have easily jazz-ed it up a bit more to further engage a broader interest. I saw Johnny Mathis live in Seattle many years ago and he did some of his hits and he did put some serious R&B into those songs and it was fabulous.
I just read about how he created that famous fade in effect where his voice seems to come right out of the orchestra. It was as if the orchestra became is voice. Amazing. He did it by walking closer and closer to the microphone as he saying that note.
Those strings sure did the job back in that day. However, his phrasing and such could have touched more with the more powerful male sound that he always had and he could do it. But he was 'different' and successful with this voice and sound so producers with the money said keep it going because he does the full spectrum of sound and he could compete with the string section.
Yes, when everyone heard that for the first time the reaction was always, "Did you hear that! Was that his voice?" It's funny, but when I turned on the video to see your comment I couldn't resist singing the song with Johnny before I did. It's one of the few songs I know EVERY SINGLE WORD and when I come to the part you were talking about I have a little difficulty 🙂to say the least! There are so many songs and artists we have become fond of over the years but this particular song sung by Johnny Mathis with fabulous orchestration behind him is, to me, the musical moment in my life I am most endeared with. I immediately think of a woman I was infatuated with at the time this song came out and you can guess the impression this song had on me. @@JohnBernardon-py7wf
My latest comment came in 8 minutes after yours. Yes, the orchestration was fantastic. Whatever someone's vision was of 'what could be' suddenly disappeared after hearing this version for the first time. It is a classic that will stand the test of time. @@dean3434
Like I said a min ago, I heard him hold that long note live many years ago in Seattle at the Paramount Theater. Breathtaking to just hear that long note! All the Best Dean Mountlake Terrace, WA
Johnny Mathis OWNS this song. In spite of the others who have sung it--Ella, Sarah, Julie, Peggy, Frank, and they do a commendable job, the Mathis Magic is inimitable. I saw him perform in 2013. The first three notes of the piano and the audience applauded. I will never forget that night...
Johnny Mathis loved the original jazz number written by Erroll Garner so he requested lyrics. They made it happen! So, Johnny has the first recording of "Misty" with vocals!
Let's not forget country singer Ray Stevens did this song. It went to number two on the country charts and number 14 on the pop chart. It still sounds good with that country sound. This sounds good too.
I lost my wonderfull husband after 59 of wonderfull marriage and this song is so wonderfully romantic just for him in heaven God bless love you forever
Whenever I hear of this song, I think of a girl that I graduated with in high school. This past May I got to see her for the first time in 51 years. I got misty.

@@christopherjones2672 I am not sure what you think I meant by my memory comment other than I think of her a bit. I met Jesus on July 24, 1976, so I think it would be best for you not to jump to conclusions to quickly. Have a blessed day.
I took my wife to see him in 1969 at the Melody Land theatre in Orange County, California. He performed all of his tremendous songs and was wonderful. I wish it were 1969 again. Thank you Johnny.
My mum loved Johnny Mathis. She's very poorly at the moment in intensive care with pulmonary lung infection. Were just waiting for that call from the doctors to say she's deteriorated or passed away.Heart broken. Please pray for my mum.Thank you.xxx
I love me some Johnny Mathis!!!! What a godsend vocalist. Majestic!!!!! This particular song takes me back to an innocent time period when life was beautiful, vital and sincere. Life use to be graceful.
I felt so lucky to get a pretty clean copy of the Heavenly Album in true stereo and original 1959 pressing. The orchestral arrangements of Glenn Osser is kickass amazing! And yes - nobody can better this vocal version of a Errol Garner jazz standard.
Truth be known, he was my voice teacher and especially with MISTY! At one time I could imitate him, but old age has done a number on the old chords. I would love to have the instrumental version of MISTY by the same director Glenn Osser, that piano player is (was) Marvelous!!
I could put this on replay for the rest of my life and relive my life listening to Johnny Johnny Mathis like I have since 1956 with his first album on. 💘
Oh yes another great song thank you Mr David Jull for suggesting this one today - you are one of the the very best announcer's of all time - congrats for working right up till you crossed over into Heaven - I can play your request anytime THANK GOD for RU-vid heavens have opened up today - Thank you Mr Johnny Mathis as well all my love Roxanne xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Wow...I had forgotten about this romantic masterpiece...symbolic of the times it was created in. It was also my mom's favorite....its making my throat swell and teats fill.....miss her so much
Such a "velvet voice"...I remember hearing his songs as a little girl...his songs made me dream that fairy tales could come true...a voice from the Wonderland!!✨️✨️
Look at me I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree And I feel like I'm clinging to a cloud I can't understand I get misty just holding your hand [Verse 2] Walk my way And a thousand violins begin to play Or it might be the sound of your hello That music I hear I get misty the moment you're near [Verse 3] You can say that you're leading me on But it's just what I want you to do Don't you notice how hopelessly I'm lost? That's why I'm following you [Verse 4] On my own Would I wander through this wonderland alone Never knowing my right foot from my left My hat from my glove I'm too misty and too much in love [2x] [Outro] Look at me
oh my God is this not so beautiful every time I hear this I am so very moved within it makes me cry remembering listening to this as a child l would stop whatever i was doing and just sway with the gentle vibe just like Tony Bennett with I left my heart in San Francisco the magic and joy that music and great artists can make you feel oh how wonderful happiness within blessings to you all ❤❤❤ 💖😇
Amazing how Ray Stevens even thought about singing the song the way he did, later generations don't know this version...Johnny Mathis, just incredible.
The year this was released, 1959, was a time of great memories for me. Whenever I hear that piano and he starts singing, I re-live a very happy time in my life.
You're very lucky...I wasn't born until 1965 so I never saw the sane world of yesteryear firsthand, as it had already started going to hell when I came upon the scene. 🤮
Johnny Mathis has been the love of my life for 66yrs. Fantastic voice, we will never hear the like of again, just perfection. Thank you John, great singer lovely man.xx
I love modern music, yet these versions are evergreen, my dad used to play this with its lovely jazz chords, he is no more and reminds me of him above all my wife who died at the age of 36 was misty. This song triggers slightly sad and sweet nostalgia.
When I hear Johnny Mathis's songs it reminds of my Dad who would sing and whistle them to us as kids....his songs as gentle and loving as my dad was....would love just one more dance to one of Johnny Mathis's songs with my dad.....one day when we meet again....
I'M ALIVE TODAT BECAUSE OF MR. JOHNNY MATHIS I ABSOLUTELY UNDENIABLY WITHOUT A DOUBT SAY HE IS THE BEST EVER PERFORMER TO GRACE THIS PLANET I WILL NEVER EVER FORGET U OR YOUR MUSIC GOB BLESS U🙏💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋💋😎😎😎
One of the BEST ALBUMS ever recorded. This is his Masterpiece album. The brilliance of his voice, the softness, the vibrato, the emotion and the range. You can't ask for more. Pop singers today don't even compare. Truly a GREAT ALBUM. 💙 PS Johnny. Bill Stoker always spoke so proudly of you.
That top note is just beautiful. He was going to be a baseball player...glad he ended up a singer. Unique, lovely voice. You can spot his voice anywhere.
Johnny Mathis was my mother's favorite singer. She has since passed & every time I hear one of his songs, it brings tears to m eyes. Such a beautiful voice.
I used to be caregiver in Hollywood. I would would meet certain individuals who would have this old Hollywood complex、I held them so dear on my heart they were the best people I love them so much
My father passed away 2 days ago by covid and he loved his songs, especially misty. Thank you to make my father happy, Johnny Mathis. Touching our heart everyday. For eternity, Marco.† 28.06.21
I’ve grown up, listening to Johnny Mathis and wondering at his genius. Misty is one of those songs that has become a classic. Imitated by many, but never reaching the success Johnny had.
To the young folks out here....guys and gals....listen to the lyrics while the beautiful melody is playing. This is what romance and love is all about. Your music today has NO soul,NO heart,NO feeling....just notice and obnoxious lyrics. The music today is why you are all fucked up. Change it.
lost my mom the day after christmas. when she was on hospice i asked her all time favorite song and she replied - misty! also told me it was her and my fathers wedding song in early 1969s!(they were divorced when he passed on 96 but always remained good friends) i tecall her playing jphny mathis albns iny chikdhoid but i jist considered it old peoples musoc at age 5!
