I was watching a show, don’t know what it was, an interview show, and all the host kept asking Johnny was, was how was it was like playing with BLAH. And Johnny said, you know, I do have some hits myself. It was so horrible to watch, but he was pretty gracious.
Played this at our wedding in 81. Favorite lyric in this beautiful song is "You're the one I thought I'd never find". He died in 2019. But we had 38 beautiful years. God Bless. ❤
i honestly think this is why relationships don't last as long as they used to. when music like this was around couple's listened to it and fell in love all over again. music is so important. it ignites the flame that was slowly dying. I will always listen to this music.
it is true, what you say...it has kept me feeling very much in love with my man, even thru the times when I thought I was ready to hang it all up and walk away...love is a great personal investment, in my opinion, and after 20+ years there's a whole lot to lose if that investment is allowed to slip away...nope! I am in it for the long haul and no matter what we've seen or been thru, I wouldn't trade it for the world, and I definitely WOULD do it all again.
Kinda got choked up at your reply. True words have never been spoken, today's people change partners more than they change underwear and sleep around not caring who they hurt!
I’m 25 and can’t stand today’s music. But Dean Martin and Bob Crosby, the four tops and the four seasons, beatles and beach boys, eagles and CCR. These are my tunes. I grew up listening to kono 101.1. What use to be the oldies station in my area. Now they play more 80s and 90s stuff. IMO that’s when rock and roll started on the down beat. Same with country. That died in ‘05.
Nothing better than moving the coffee table out of the way, and putting this song on nice and loud, with the lights down low and dancing with my bride of 30 years. It just doesn't get any better.
Song makes me cry now. Used to be so fun. But I lost my girl 4 years ago after being side by side for 31 years. Since I was 18. Still its a wonderful and beautiful song. I wish you and your girl a hundred more years my friend. Nothing like being with your true love. Your soulmate.
We're a year apart and I was playing it at 12 and 13 years old , I was so serious about Sandy . I still remember her name ! Because this song was only about her .
Amen! And, we all yearn for those happier, gentler, magical times. Sadly, we can only look behind where we came from but never go back - through music such as this.
I’m not old enough to be married but this song. I have never. Ever. Cried over a song so much in my entire life. This song. My dad used to sing this to me every night before bed and we would slow dance together. And I remember having to stand up on my bed so that I’d be tall enough to hug him. And now this song just means so much to me. I grew up with this song. Hearing it for the first time in probably about ten years really just hit me like a sack of bricks. I hope one day I can sing this to whomever I get married to and make it an even more special song
Huge hugs my dad used to dance with me when I was little and he would sing this too. He now has dementia and sometimes thinks I'm my mom...we do not look alike I look like Dad
My husband had this song dedicated to me when we were dating. We were both 25/26 and lived with our parents trying to get our life back, so we had no where to go to be alone without families staring at us. We found an old empty lot close to his house, and we would talk about our future together. We eventually got married and then tragedy struck, he was killed 6 months later! This song is so very special to me!
I had a vision that I would meet a girl and dance to this song with her. 10 years or so later I told my future wife that this was my favorite song and it ended up being our song at our wedding... still going strong 31 years later.
@Krodork Exactly... don't know how many arguments I've gotten into with children; saying part of the fun on road trips is everyone listening & singing along... ( only classics) Kids nowadays only listening to crap.
This was played during our wedding in August 1977, after all these years when this song is played the years fade and my wife looks the same as she did that day she said I do. Forty years later she still gets to me and I will always love this song!
Slow dancing with my sweetheart at junior high dances in 1978. This was one of our favorites. So many years ago but, when I listen to this song, I'm instantly back in that dark gymnasium with her in my arms again. Puts a lump in my throat thinking about those magical moments. I'll never forget you CR.🥰
There will never be another Johnny Rivers. He had an influence on us all who grew up in that time, and he is the real deal. Such talent and faithful to his roots. He made history and i hope he lives forever. Thank you Johnny.
This song helped save my marriage once when we were having problems. We had a date night and ended up dancing to this song. It has a special place in my heart forever more.
Remember this song coming on while my girlfriend, my friend and his girlfriend were out in my Dads Custom Van in 77 in a snow storm. We were sitting in a Northern Illinois Forest Preserve when this came on. We actually got out of the Van and started Dancing in the parking lot. At that moment the snow ended and the Moon came out. Beautiful Scenery, Beautiful Girl and a Great song coming from the many speakers. Didn't matter that it was all of 15 degrees out.
Great Memory Gene M! It triggered one of mine.I was 15 making out with my first real girlfriend on top of a 10 foot snow pile in the middle of the Safeway parking lot! Her name was Stacey. And it was Winter 1972. Thanks for the mind trip Gene!
I'm sorry for your loss. At the time this song was popular, my high school sweetheart was killed in an accident. Makes me think of him sometimes and my first year at the university. God bless you.❤
I'm crying. So many memories of my childhood life with all my older friends and family living on the Hopi reservation isn't easy. But it was so peaceful long ago. MAY THE GREAT SPIRIT BE WITH YOU ALL ALWAYS
Saw Johnny Rivers last night in Wilkes-Barre, PA. OMG, he still has it! One of the best Rock & Roll concerts I have been to in years. Brilliant composer, singer, guitarist and producers. He deserves to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame far more than many others already in there.
Unfortunately, those chosen to be inducted into the hall of fame are required to have the right politics and social networks, as do those who receive oscars and nobel prizes. Johnny touches my heart every time I hear him sing.
@ Keith Curtis.... I saw him perform in Vegas, in 2004, I think it was. Absolutely Fabulous. ... he saved this particular Song for the Encore. Signed Autographs after the show, he was so gracious, kind, and genuine. I won't forget it.
J.R. wasn't and isn't underrated. That's all in your head. You might say he's underplayed in 2018, because you don't here his music everyday, unless your looking for it. These songs go back a long time ago. the people that enjoyed these song years ago are slowly fading away. I wouldn't say he isn't gaining new fans but not like fifty years ago. Times change.
I see comments that Johnny should be in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of fame. I could not agree more. His body of work is amazing. Johnny has brought so many much joy. He is in my hall of fame for sure.
Bill Shaffer. Your Rock'nRoll Hall of fame is really all that matters. Karl Fisher is right , It's just a tourist attraction in Cleveland. It is not worthy of a second thought.
+Todd Willis My thoughts are with you. I could not imagine what you are going through, but please know there are people that are thinking of you. God Bless.
Love this song, one of his best songs along with the poor side of town, I find it irritating that this song is not available on Spotify, at least I know it will always be here on RU-vid!
Sounds VERY 70ies!!!!!! And when I was in my country there was a radio station that only played old songs 70ies mainly. And it was the only station that Iistened to !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@DougWhitman-m9b Music you could sing to no screaming like today. GOD/Jesus bless you Jonny for GOD blessed you with your voice now you can sing to HIM, Earl
My daughter who is getting married June 1, 2024 has pick this song as her slow dance song with her new husband. I’ve loved everything Johnny Rivers ever put out. So nice my daughter and future husband see it also
I was 18 and in the Air Force, it was 1978! Against the odds, HE, and I fell so deeply in love, this was our song, it is now 2013! Oh! man, please, I wish! That he and I had married, how can I say that, because, I can still hear him telling me he loved me and I still can feel his touch! I still.... love him!
I regret not marrying my first love. I would never trade my kids just which they were with him. I loved him and he loved me but things happened and I was a fool. I fantasize about him dream of him. So many songs remind me of him. He’s was the only true love I will have. It’s been 26 years and I never forgot him and I never will
I was 14 in the late summer of 1977 🌈. Elvis Presley just died and I remember this now classic came out right before that 💖 ......looking back now as a 57 year old man, touching to my soul 🔔
Truly a beautiful song, and no one can sing it like Johnny Rivers. I remember dancing to this song at a high school dance when I was a sophmore and girls were still a magical mystery, soft, warm and they smelled SO good. Us guys were GUYS, girls were GIRLS, and we guys were very happy with that arrangement. Miss those days so much!!
Mega hit at the old roller rink in 1977. The world was a lot better place when I was a kid, at least mass culture was definitely a hell of a lot better.
Oh yea. I agree. The times were better in the 80's when I was a kid. So I can bet it was good in the 70's. It was ok in the 90's. But the 2000's, it seems like people don't care about anyone but themselves and it's only gotten worst in the last 5-10 years. Man I wish people would be like back then. Life was so much simplier and better back then.
+LittleSlim78 I was born in 1990, and growing up in the 90's and 2000's, I can certainly attest that people have become MUCH more self centered and arrogant. My generation, hell, most Americans 40 and younger are extremely arrogant, and at times, very foolish and judgmental. I am fairly disgusted with how people behave in this era.
Caedus Decivus I actually think a lot of millenials are more polite than Gen Xers. Frankly, boomers are one of the worst, most spoiled generations ever. There are squads of old American men that have ludicrous insane views of the world. I think millenials are fine, other than their music is derivative and often, but not always, sucks. Same is true for their art. They are money grubbers, but that's nothing new and there's less money out there to chase. People are over-obsessed with their nothing electronics, but I don't think they are rude generally.
Good to know that there are at least a decent amount of people in my generation that have given a good impression. I suppose it depends on where we live, in some regard. I agree that the tech we have is a bit ridiculous; I've never bothered having a phone any more advanced than a flip phone; I don't have any reason to have computer capabilities on something I hardly use.
There were two Boomer groups, The first and the Echos. The Echoes were late 50s to 64 and we thought the earlier Boomers were nuts to. They went though the country and their lives like a scythe, running up prices on everything and leaving crumbs and such in their wake. There really are two groups of Millennials to, the first and second groups. Second group is in College now like my Daughter. Most book smart folks you will ever know and not a ounce of street smarts. But they do seem to be able to learn from their mistakes so we may be OK with them down the road. :)
Big block 472 except for a couple songs. He made s career out of covering other artists material and reaping the rewards This song is good as well as secret agent man .i.just think his total body of work is overrated
Len Drury Like Linda Ronstadt, he made a killing covering other singer's songs. Like Linda Ronstadt, he had a lot of talent. Elvis and Sinatra also made a killing doing covers ("My Way" comes to mind). My issue is if you think he's highly overrated, why waste your time listening to this tune? If I don't particularly care for a performer, I will scroll through him/her. Just my two cents.
When my daughter was just a few months old it was hard to get her to fall asleep - every night I came home from work I sang this song to her to put her to sleep. Still some of the best nights of my life , rocking my beautiful baby girl to sleep with such a wonderful song . I'll always fondly remember that time of my life. They grow up so fast .
so sorry for your loss gary. bless you man. just listen to you n your wife's music. she's rite their with you brotha. god bless n hang in their. think she would want that.
It's late at night And we're all alone Just the music on the radio No one's comin', No one's gonna telephone Just me and you And the lights down low And we're slow dancin', Swayin' to the music Slow dancin', Just me and my girl Slow dancin', Swayin' to the music No one else In the whole wide world Just you, girl And we just flow together When the lights are low Shadows dancin' All across the wall Music's playin' So soft and slow Rest of the world So far away and small When we're slow dancin', Swayin' to the music Slow dancin', Just me and my girl Slow dancin', Swayin' to the music No one else In the whole wide world Hold me, Oh, oh, oh, hold me No, never let me go As we dance together In the dark So much love In this heart of mine You whisper to me, Hold you tight You're the one I thought I'd never find Now we're slow dancin', Swayin' to the music Slow dancin', Just me and my girl Slow dancin', Swayin' to the music No one else In the whole wide world Slow dancin', Swayin' to the music Slow dancin', Just me and my girl Slow dancin', Swayin' to the music No one else In the whole wide world Whole wide world
Judy Marlene sorry dear, but with Auto - Tune the days of REAL talent is sooo over. I so thankful for Pandora and IHEARTRADIO so I can make my own stations and never have to listen to this 21st century non-talent crap. Your taste in music is SPECTACULAR. Have a great day. L8r!! ☺☺☺ ✌ ✌ ✌ 🎶🎶🎶 🎧🎧🎧 🎵🎵🎵 ☺☺☺
One of my Dad's favorite artists. Listen to this numerous times in late '70s as a kid. Johnny Rivers' is a tremendous talent! This song says it all doesn't it? - Guy to girl... 🕺♥️💃
Laurie Lynn...I love you so much...26 yrs. Later..we're finally SLOW DANCIN....together!! I couldn't love you anymore!!!!! We made it honey ... I'm so happy.. THANK YOU....
Sorry for your loss Gary C, I lost my mom two years and 8 months ago, man she did like to hear Johnny Rivers sing, so listening to this song brings back a lot of memories for me, God I miss her so much.
Saw “The Wonder Years” last night Kevin and Winnie creating time for each other and this played in the ending credits. and sure brought back golden memories of childhood from decades past.
At the end of the 60ies to the beginning of the 80ies music reached it PERFECTION. in my opinion. This is a marvellous song! So many gorgeous songs were written then. wonderful melodies great clever lyrics and great singers and composers....... Now music lost its power .....
I've always loved this beautiful romantic song since I was a child Now it has significant meaning in my life. I've finally found the one I thought I'd never find!! Thank you Mr. Johnny Rivers!!!💕🙏💕💕
+Marlon Hinton The summer of 1981, I would give anything to go back and live it again. I wouldn't change a thing. Start of my senior year of high school. Oh to just dance to this song with Brenda just one more time.
A Cuban friend once told me Time is a cruel thing,Wow what a statement,it becomes more and more relevant with every decade that goes by,beautiful memories but our time is fading fast, wish we could go back for just one day !!!!
I've been saying that for a few years. It's shameful that some acts have been inducted and Johnny Rivers still sits on the sideline. He will make it one day, I just hope he is alive to see it.
