Johnny will always be great, to know that a Mexican American made it in country music, l was in his fan club in the 70's He kissed my daughter on the cheek and shook hands with my son. He will always be in our hearts
Tom T. Hall may have helped Johnny as far as promoting, but Johnny has the God given talent of singing & writing. NO ONE CAN SING LIKE JOHNNY!!!!!!! When he sings he touches your heart - NO ONE LIKE JOHNNY!!! JOHNNY YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!
Few will ever realize that these 2 carved out a beautiful little corner of Country that no one will ever touch or take away. Tom T is my idol. I dont use that word lightly!🎼
🤠 FROM MALIBU CALIFORNIA... MY RESPECTS TO ALL FANS OUT THEIR!!!! JOHNNY DOES THE SINGING BEST 👌.... AND MR. MONTY HALL YOU KEEP PLAYING THAT 🎹 YES!!!! BUT TOGETHER A # 1 HIT " Y " ALL, PEACE
I listen to Johnny here on U tube almost everyday and I get kind of fuzzy all over when I hear and see him. I guess you could say fell in love with him in the 70's. He was eye candy for sure. Sept 2012
Johnny was always and still is one of my favorite singers. The 70's was his best years and he has had his troubled times, but Johnny has more heart in his little finger than most have in their entire body. I loveed hearing this very much. Thank you for posting it
It was wonderful Johnny Rodriguez had a mentor like Tom T. Hall, and when he was new to Nashville. That is one of my favorites of J. R.'s recordings, and how he could sing it. He looked very young and handsome there. ❤From A Nashville Girl❤
Garner State Park He sang some song and we had a good time and in 70 I went into the Army and herd it on a tape my mom had sent me to Korea, Johny was on his way. Met him again in Ft Bragg north Carolina and the next year in Germany on a USO tour, He was great . Through the years we spent a lot of time together and I know Johny. Johnny is a good man and I still love the memorys and his music. Sing on Brother! Your old friend Roto Rooter
Hope things have gotten better. My family has been off kilter for several years now because of losing family.. life can rip your heart & it's hard to keep going but u have to. Prayers!
I just became aware that uncletomhall, who posted many of the Johnny Rodriguez's songs, is Tom T. Hall. I see Johnny on RFDTV's Country Family Reunion. I love them both.
I remember buying Johnnys record with this track on and "Riding my thumb to mexico", A superb album with all the top session men of the era ,Pete Drake , Johnny Gimble, Buddy Harman etc a fabulous album.
I can certainly relate to this. While driving through Kentucky on I-71 one fall afternoon I stopped for lunch in Carlton KY. Where I wrote a super great hit in 14 minutes sitting in a restaurant parking lot. Reminds me: Buck Owens while driving through Texas, Harlin Howard was resting in the back seat of Bucks car. Buck kept telling Harlan about a big tiger on the sign at a filling station. 16 min later Harlan pitch a paper over the front seat to Buck -- thus "Tiger by the tail" was born.
That Tiger at a Filing station couldnt of been a "Exon Gas Station'. who used a Siberian Tiger picture on their TV Commercials and Freeway Billboards, during the 1970s & 1980s. DIdnt think Exon existed back in the 1960s too.
If there is anyone with the version of riding my thumb to mexico with Tom and Johnny live that could post that'd be awesome. Last one got plucked off the tubes😢
Instead of making love feel better, you make it worse. You aint kidding. That line right there will hold true for the next ten million years. So gobsmackingly true it just aint funny.
Didn't know Tom T. had anything to do with Johnny's career. Heard back in the day a Texas Ranger "discovered" him while he was in jail on some minor offence. And that Ranger hooked him up with a country superstar. Guess that was Tom T..
Ok Tom, Johnny and I are set to put his life's story on paper. I'm the Geroge Strait biographer (KING GEORGE amazon.com) and Johnny called me the other day and we're putting it all down on paper for his fans. So talk it up...the book will e out in 2013.
Ain't many people better if any!! Old country is gone! Now most is junk wannabes !! Pop rock mess! Why people think changing with the times is better is crazy cause that's what's wrong in the world today!
Johnny had a 3-octave range. THAT is almost unhear of in male singers especially without formal training. Tom T Hall (and his wife Dixie) wrote thousands of songs, most of which have yet to be recorded. Of course, I'm sure you can top that! How is that people can't just enjoy that has been presented, be grateful that it is presented here, and not complain? Thank you for this posting. It was a great view of two greats in Country/Popular Music.
