i used to watch this in my school days in 1986-87, when i was in my 7th std..it was telecast every Thursday at 7pm in DD.....never missed a episode....next day all my class mates would discuss the story...it was such fun....
DD2 or DD1. I watched both at some 2/3 (not sure) years difference may be. Those are the days of BW TVs and manual channel changer. only 2 channels with limited time.
@@visitkoushik it was DD1 and it was aired after 8 pm....and after 3 years Street hawk was aired on Sunday on DD1....majority of homes had black ⚫ and white ⚪tv... Colour tv 📺 was found only in homes of ultra rich...😒
Oh boy i remember the last episode where the robot died killing the Villain and i cried inconsolably no one could stop me i wanted the robot back again and i skipped my dinner and the lunch next day so my father decided to dress like the robot came and stood before me i was so happy. My father passed away this year, this show reminded me of my father and those innocent childhood days . I have lost my robot my father forever and this time and there is no other way to bring him back may his soul rest in peace...😭
It makes me emotional, brings back my childhood.. I did not have tv at my house, i went to my friends place to watch this, never missed an episode. I was so addicted to this show.. love it..
@@RayPluton In the US this was supplanted by Ultraman and there was also Speed Racer back in the early to mid-70's. I never saw Gigantor. It may have been off the air by the time I was old enough to remember it, or maybe the local TV channel that ran these after school never picked that series up since Flying Robot was basically live action Gigantor. The big fun started as Macross, Star Blazers, and Battle of the Planets showed up. For some reason we never got Mobile Suit Gundam though, but we did get He-Man and the Thundercats.
I cried at then ending of this movie when I first saw it in 1972. It broke my heart to see Giant Robot die. My brother who was three years older than me tried to explain to me that it was just a movie. I was 6 years old at the time and I wasn't trying to hear that. I had just watched my monster hero fly into a flaming hot meteorite. Still to this day my all-time favorite monster movie.
Same for me... I cannot believe that the 'hero' died when my elder sister explained to me the plot as I was way too young to understand in pre-school days.
@@rolandomorales7255 I know huh! Cause the narrator did say "But who knows. When Johnny desperately needs him, he will come back, out of the sky." As a kid I use to always look up in the sky hoping he would appear. Giant Robot broke my heart doing what he did. But later on in life I had to realize it was for the greater good of humanity.
@@rolandomorales7255 LOLx not sure if it would return but at that age, I just couldn't deal with the "reality" and issue of being "deserted" by Giant Robot. :-)
One of my favorite old memories... This is my first show which I remember..What a great time...I wish to go and live life once again when I was child. ..missing those days
Among the greatest hero sacrifices in entertainment history. Right up there with Spock, Kirk, Supergirl, The Flash, Black Widow and Iron Man. They all hit home. Well done Giant Robot! Your hero status is set in steel.
If ever there were two movies in need of a reboot with all of the CGI today this and War of the Gargantuas would pack the theaters with 50 and 60 year old kids.
@@keatts23 lol yeah scared the hell out of me as a kid too especially the lady that was eaten at the airport that was pretty traumatizing. Watching it many times over the years though I have to say it is still a pretty solid Kaiju flick with costumed actors without the benefit of today’s CGI enhancements. The only flaw to me was the abrupt ending “ yeah fight in the ocean, make a volcano rise out of nowhere, burn em up and roll the credits..
I loved this show when I was a young kid, Ultraman was on the TV either right before or right after Johnny Sokko, loved that one too! I get emotional too, def the GOOD OLE DAYS!!
I remember in the late 70s growing up watching this program. My two favorite programs were giant robot and speed racer. I concur with many on this message board, the old days were the best.
OH.!!... those were the best Days of childhood... I was in 🤵6th STD when Giant Robot used to be telecasted once in a week and we boys desperately wait for the show...😇 Come.. On ...Giant..Robot..!!!🤗
I still remember Giant Robot tv series of 80's black and white time during my childhood days when very few programs are for children. Takes me back to my old day's.
It was 1989 . We didn't have television in our home. I saw this serial in Mumbai, Maharashtra for the first time. I went to my uncle's house. His Christian neighbors used to watch this serial quite often. Thanks for uploading
my childhood favourite one, i never missed any single episode of it, time flies, honestly those days where so good entertainment was limited but we enjoyed it.
Well my first intro to what a Robot is as a toddler. This gets me so much emotional.. I kind of always was fascinated with robots and later computers and programming and till date.
In the winter I would put on my snow suit, huge oversize boots (Mom was getting at least a cpl of years out of those) and go outside and pretend I was the giant robot! The best memories. Cheers!
Grew up watching this series. It was pretty difficult when you didn't have a tv back then. However, with great neighbours in the village, I get to watch them, albeit from outside the window panes. Giant Robot was my hero!
Today, when I own a smartwatch, I just couldn't help thinking how they saw it happening 40 years ago! I remember seeing this in my country on the National Network. One of my favorite. I hope the flying robot too materializes with advancements in todays technology!
My absolute favorite as a kid. I made the jet pack out of a box and cardboard tube and flew around the house. My imagination was at optimal overdrive, it was glorious.
I have wondered so many times for so many years about how to find this show. I watched it as a very young child, I am 51 years old now. I didn't think I would ever see it again because for the life of me I couldn't remember the name of the show or the name of the robot. Thank you so much, thank you!!! 🙏🙏
