In regards to arranged mode's tunes... Every 100 years, Casltevania rises from the ashes, called to the earth by the ruin & sadness emanating from men's souls... whenever there's a leap year, Funklevania rises from the boomboxes, called to the discos by the raves & fistbumps emanating from men's spandex...

Well, now we need a loop of 11:33-11:40. Edit: And 12:35-12:47. We need the full rave, Johnny.

Fun Fact: in Castlevania Chronicles, if you hold down L1 and R1 and select either original or arranged mode, you can then choose up to three different sound chips for the soundtrack to play off of. Which also means that you can play arranged mode with the original mode's soundtrack.

I love the way Simon walks in Haunted Castle. And when he gets hurt and killed, he sticks his ass out at the camera. He literally gets his ass kicked. His digitized scream adds to it too.

The load screen tune from Castlevania Chronicles original mode actually came from Castlevania 1. The Famicom Disk System release in Japan allowed saving to three different save files, and featured the same tune. As far as I know, Castlevania Chronicles' difficulty was a response to those who sent letters to Konami complaining about how easy Super Castlevania 4 was. Also, as brutally hard as the first playthrough is, each subsequent playthrough increases the difficulty up to and including the seventh playthrough.

"Why is the game harder for America? Isn't that usually the opposite?" I know of two games (Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time and Ninja Gaiden 3) which were BOTH harder for their American versions (though for different reasons, strangely... M&L came out in America first and so the international release got a better balance, whereas Ninja Gaiden 3 was Japanese first and bumped UP the difficulty for localization)... There's also, of course, Castlevania 3! But I actually can't think of any time other SMB2 that localization opted for something easier. Does FF: Mystic Quest count for this? That's in conception, but it fits the discussion.

Words cannot describe the emotions I felt when I heard the Fortnite Default Dance come from that Skeleton. Great piece though. Only thing I knew about Haunted Castle was the badass Don't Wait Until Night (Crumbling Bridge) track in the OST, but as far as the game goes I was completely clueless.

Great review. I love most classic Castlevania games and I have played Haunted Castle on my Pandora's Box. Damn if it doesn't drive me crazy, kudos to John for sticking with it. I usually give it ten minutes and by then I'm too frustrated with it.

Oh wow, I literally played this for the first time today! Happy to know I didn't suck at Original mode in Castlevania Chronicles because I just suck (entirely)...it's just that hard. Also, after seeing so many people play the original Castlevania, I kept hitting walls I KNOW should have wall meat, but all I got was nothing or fleamen. Also played Lament of Innocence today for the first time too(PS2 game). After a few hours... ehhhhh...good ideas... not horrible, but...OOOOOOFFFF!

That bridge theme you mentioned is "Don't Wait Until Night" my personal favorite piece of Castlevania music, and was arranged with the song "Heart of Fire" as the theme of Julius Belmont in Aria of Sorrow. Julius is also my favorite Belmont so that might be part of the reason why I love Don't Wait Until Night so much.

So here I was preparing for a school paper I need to write, my braining feeling like it was on the verge of cracking under stress, followed by me saying. "maybe I should take a small break?" what pops up in my notification afterwards, A new video from my second favorite review (though favorite video game reviewer.) sometimes life isn't fair in your favor.

Castlevania Johnny is my favorite Johnny. I hope you tackle some of the IGA games sometime as well (although perhaps you're waiting for Bloodstained to be on the horizon and lump that one it), particularly the Sorrow series (or at least Aria). I've tried playing Circle of the Moon and it was super disappointing to me with its ridiculous difficulty spikes and expectation of grinding. Maybe I just went to the wrong area at some point, but when I can hardly beat a boss while abusing the fuck out of save states *cough Zombie Dragon cough* then I know it either wants me to grind for hours or is just shitty design. Anyway great vid Johnny and I'll be looking forward to Simon/Richter dittoing you in Ultimate if you ever do fan battles!
