"I just know a baby hedgehog falls down, explodes, and no, I don't want context for that, it's funnier that way." Johnny, having grown up with Sonic Underground I can tell you that even with context that still makes zero sense.

i still find it hard to believe sonic generations is almost 10 years old...i actually still play the game now and then for a few hours though the unleashed project did help alot

Last time i saw Johnny talk about Sonic 1, I was 11. I'm 22 now.

Not only is this year the 30th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog, it’s also the 10th anniversary of the Johnny Vs. series! My how the time flies.

I could not pass the moment to watch a Johnny Vs Sonic video as soon as possible and immediately is the best time

I think what makes 2D Sonic's speed feel so good is that there _are_ moments where the game slows down for a minute or two at a time. You get a sense of what a "normal" platformer's speed feels like for a bit, so that it makes the moments where you're practically outrunning the screen feel even faster than if the whole game was just a rocket on a salt flat made of butter.

Amazing stuff, John! Your older reviews of the classic Sonic games are videos I always enjoy returning to. And now to have a new set of videos on the classic Sonic games is truly a treat! :)

Man it's crazy how I straight up grew up with this channel. I remember being in 4th grade right in the middle of my sonic phase and watching the sonic generations review. Years later, and Johnny has become my favorite game reviewer on this site. Thanks for the decade of entertainment man.

I just can't play Sonic 1. I'll play Green Hill and then shut it off. I just get so bored even in Spring Yard and Starlight. Loved the approach for this one, Johnny. Despite how rocky this franchise can be both in and out of the games, I'll always care about this blue weirdo.

I absolutely love the music to Scrap Brain Zone. When you hear it you know shit is about to get real! Yet it doesn't sound obviously "evil" like Bowsers Castle does. Its appealing, yet twisted, like Robotnik himself.

This will always be my fondest memory regarding Sonic: WAY back in 1st grade, I met a kid who was drawing a pretty decent drawing of Sonic. I thought that was the coolest thing I've ever seen, introduced myself and asked what he was drawing. That was the first time I've ever seen Sonic and when I met my very first friend.

I've been a fan of yours for almost 10 years and you've been a major inspiration for me man So seeing this video was very pleasant cause it shows how far you've come as a person and as a content creator. I will forever continue to support your work

What made Sonic so appealing to me back then in Sonic 1 was how cute & cool he was at the same time. Green hill zone was the only stage I associated Sonic with cause it felt grounded for being about nature yet felt somewhat surreal & magical for having shiny rings, powerup monitors, and it's beautiful music, plus it fits Sonic's personality with having checkboard patterned dirt symbolizing racing & going fast. On top of that you have that giant magical ring sending you to an even more surreal location that house a magical stone that you have find your way to collect. Lastly the robots & traps that invade Green Hill along with the fat robot making man himself adds to the intensity and edge that gives Sonic an excuse to be this serious, cool & fast saving grace for this beautiful natured place to prevent it from being overran by Robotnik & his bots. Basically Sonic was beautiful, surreal, grounded, and intense at the same time which made him appealing to me.
